Considering that Fox and NBC networks just had their upfront presentations earlier this week, we had a feeling that CBS wouldn’t be far behind. We were right. The CBS Upfronts Presentation went down in New York yesterday and it seemed that the ladies ruled the roost. Cobie Smulders led the way in a white Rebecca Minkoff “Mistral” dress with cutouts and cheeky red pumps. Apparently, her earrings were designed by Krysten Ritter for JewelMint to benefit Autism Speaks. How I Met Your Mother, FTW! We bet she’s in the best shape of her life after having to fit into that unforgiving catsuit she wore through The Avengers. It was also great to see Lucy Liu, looking impossibly tiny, but fit, in a burgundy Marios Schwab slip.
Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs — the 2 Broke Girls — looked great posing together. We just can’t understand why Kat won’t smile more? She was a knockout in a black dress and nude pumps but wouldn’t stop pouting for some strange reason. Seriously, every photograph we saw didn’t have a hint of a grin in it. Luckily, her co-star Beth, made up for her in the sunshine department, while wearing a lovely royal blue sheath. To see who else attended, you’re going to have to click through our gallery, but we promise you … it’ll be worth it.

In the latest issue of Vanity Fair, James Wolcott points out what a great time it is for female characters on TV. From Downton Abbey to 30 Rock, our screens are filled with complex, strong, flawed women that reflect real life as much as they entertain us. And also, as the VF cover and photo spread demonstrate, a lot of the actresses portraying those great characters also happen to be smoking hot. We at the Fab Life pride ourselves on being solid feminists as much as we love being shallow, so this is the perfect way to combine those interests: Making you (seriously, we’ll put toothpicks in your eyelids if you disobey) look at the 10 brainiest beauties, or the 10 most beautiful brainiacs, on TV right now, and then forcing you to vote for your favorite. Are you an avid follower of Kalinda Sharma’s ass-kicking investigative techniques on The Good Wife? Were you rooting for Lady Sybil to ditch her parents AND her chauffeur suitor and run off to become a doctor? Aren’t you sure that Sterling Cooper Draper Price would crumble without Joanie’s capable guidance? Peruse the gallery, add to your DVR queue, and get to voting. Poll ends on Monday at 2 p.m. ET.

Classic black never goes out of style. There may have been a fair amount of neutrals and grays and bold colors on the 2012 Sag Awards red carpet last night, but black actually outnumbered them all. None of the gowns veered towards goth territory, either, as all the styles went the romantic or slightly edgy route.
We saw drapes on the likes of Melissa McCarthy’s Badgley Mischka, Archie Panjabi’s one-shouldered Carolina Herrera and Angelina Jolie’s Jenny Packham halter-necked gown. The latter was a little too safe for our liking. Wearing the same designer was Ashlee Simpson, whose dress was similar to the number Vanessa Hudgens wore to the People’s Choice Awards. No contest here: Ashlee wore the better version.
Amber Heard killed it in a Zac Posen cut-out dress and guess who wore the same designer? Glenn Close! She rocked that gown and her compatriot Jessica Lange did the same in a slinky sequined David Meister number. Both the ladies are still so sexy in their 60s! Joining the sequin brigade was Jayma Mays‘ beautiful Reem Acra gown with a dramatic demi-train. We saw a lot of lace overlay as well, whether it was in Amber Riley’s Badgley Mischka, Stacy Keibler’s Marchesa or Emma Stone’s custom Alexander McQueen. We’d also like to hand out top marks to our favourite 30 Rock ladies for bringing on the fabulous. Tina Fey looked very sexy in her vintage Versace gown as did Jane Krakowski in Antonio Berardi. Everyone did really good here, and black was anything but boring. The only celebrity we wish had upped the stakes was Glee’s Heather Morris. Her half-sheer Masai Payan dress just didn’t work.

The Heart Truth Red Dress show opened New York Fashion Week yesterday. And what a show it was! The annual show has celebrities wearing different red dresses as symbols to help inspire women to get proactive with heart disease awareness.
The star of the show was Dita von Teese, who killed it in a scarlet Zac Posen gown. Camila Alves came a close second looking statuesque in Kaufman Franco column — but then again, she is a model! Suzanne Somers wore a flirty flounced Ina Soltani number, and we have to say, she looked pretty damn great too. A chestnut haired Denise Richards looked gorgeous in Matthew Williamson, while Patti LaBelle shut it down in a dramatic Zang Toi creation. Take a look at the gallery below to see the likes of Audrina Patridge, Eve, Natasha Bedingfield and more, including a very pregnant Laila Ali in A Pea in the Pod,  rock the runway.
