How did The Host‘s director know Saoirse Ronan was perfect to be his lead? Where’s Lindsay Lohan hanging out now? And is Modern Family‘s Ariel Winter reconnecting with her mother? All this in today’s Last Lap.
You already listen to him 24/7 and dose your clothes in his scent: isn’t it only that you get to have Justin Bieber on your TV as well? ABC certainly thinks so. According to TV Guide, the network is currently developing a sitcom based on the Bieb’s life. Justin and his manager Scooter Braun would executive produce the show, which would largely depict “Bieber’s background before he got famous. The comedy is about a future pop star’s awkward teenage years and his unorthodox family.” This could actually be great. Have you seen Justin’s dad? Unorthodox is one word for it! Which then begs the question, who should star as the Biebers?
We know that all celeb kids are cute. Obviously. We have eyes with which to see. It’s just that some celeb kids have a preternaturally developed sense of style, while the rest of us are wearing old soccer t-shirts with grape juice stains. As adults. So while we are more than happy to squee over the most shabbily dressed bundle of joy, we’d like to give props to the Best of 2012 celeb kids and babies, from Moroccan Scott Cannon to Suri Cruise, who will be dictating what America will be wearing in five to ten years. Or right now. We already feel compelled to wear short pants, bow ties and pull-ups. Don’t tell us we can’t because we already stopped listening!

Is there a word for “slightly less horrified than we were before”? No, not “happy” or “pleased.” Something more neutral than that. Maybe “not currently throwing up”? We are currently not throwing up after TMZ reported that Modern Family’s Ariel Winter‘s mom Chrystal Workman has denied attempting to shop around nude photos of her eldest daughter Shanelle. “I have no naked photos of my daughter,” Workman told the site. Well, we guess that’s the best sentence involving the phrase “naked photos of my daughter” we can imagine someone saying. Thank goodness for small blessings!
Yesterday publicist Jonathan Hay came forward claiming the Workman had allegedly come to him hoping to release said naked photos to the media. We’re not exactly sure why anyone would ever do such a noxious thing, but we assume it would hypothetically have something to do with the fact Shanelle was awarded guardianship of Ariel. Also, maybe the devil would have something to do with it? Hay claims he refused Workman’s request. Best case scenario: Hay made all this up and Ariel and Shanelle only have worry about those…previous…abuse allegations. Worst case scenario: well, there’s a reason we have a legal system. And a gag reflex. And common human decency.

We’re still shuddering over the news from yesterday that 14-year-old Modern Family cutie Ariel Winter was removed from her mother’s home and placed under her older sister’s guardianship. Court papers revealed allegations that Chris (a.k.a. Crystal) Workman subjected Winter to “ongoing physical abuse (slapping, hitting, pushing) and emotional abuse (vile name-calling, personal insults about minor and minor’s weight, attempts to ‘sexualize’ minor, deprivation of food, etc.) for an extended period of time.”
Last night, Workman came forward to deny the allegations. “It’s all untrue, it’s all untrue,” she told People. “I have my doctor’s letter that my daughter’s never been abused. … I have stylists’ letters that she’s never been abused.” OK, those are kind of weird sources, but we guess a stylist would see the actress up close on a regular basis?
Not helping Workman’s case is the fact that Ariel’s sister, actress Shanelle Gray, was also removed from her mother’s home after similar allegations came to light 20 years ago. But the girls’ brother says the claims were false on both occasions. “The allegations made 20 years ago are not true and the ones today are not true,” Jimmy Workman told Us Weekly. “This is a mother who does everything for her kids. Chris misses Ariel and wants her to come home.”
We hope this all gets settled soon, because this sweet kid seems like she’s got a good head on her shoulders, despite all the turmoil her home life appears to be. And look how adorbs she and her sister are together in the photo above!
Aaaaand now we’re crying. If you’re like us and love the Modern Family cast like they were your own absurd, amazing in-laws, you’ll be even more horrified than most to learn that Ariel Winter, a.k.a. sardonic middle child Alex Dunphy, has allegedly been removed from her home due to allegations of parental abuse. TMZ reports that Winters, currently 14, was removed by a judge after a guardianship hearing in October revealed allegations of physical and emotional abuse on the part of Ariel’s mother Crystal Workman. Actually, even if you haven’t seen Modern Family, we’re betting everyone will be equally saddened by this story. Everyone in the world.
As if that wasn’t bad enough (and it definitely was), Ariel’s older sister Shanelle Gray was removed from her mother’s house two years ago after similar allegations of abuse were reported to the Department of Children and Family Services. Crystal Workman was allegedly ordered to stay 100 yards from Ariel, who is currently living with sister Shanelle. A hearing has been set up for November 20, after which Ariel will hopefully be able to settle in to a home life that’s more like her sitcom, and less like the emotional version of American Horror Story.
The 10th Annual Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party with Emporio Armani in Beverly Hills was a pretty successful bash last night, judging from the guest-list. Lots of young stars turned up to preen on the red carpet as you can see in our mega gallery below. Nikki Reed and cover girl Victoria Justice stood out from the dresses brigade wearing pants suits. Nikki wore a monochrome Emporio Armani jacket while Victoria chose a red blazer in the same brand with her blank tank and skinny trousers. Sarah Hyland and her Modern Family co-star, Ariel Winter, were lovely in a strapless taupe and black Erin by Erin Fetherstone mini-dress and minimal white Collette Dinnigan frock, respectively. Bella Thorne had her lovely titian hair tumbling down over a black dress and edgy metallic burgundy and silver ankle booties. Lucy Hale looked fresh and so pretty in a printed white and pale Christian Dior Resort 2012 collection dress while Hailee Steinfeld was working it in head-to-toe Louis Vuitton. They were just the tip of the iceberg as the ladies kept coming: Leslie Mann (in Rodarte), Kiernan Shipka (who is her stylist and where can we find them), Jessica Lowndes, Cody Horn, Claire Holt and a host of others. It’s gallery time! Who is your best-dressed pick? We think Kiernan leads the pack for us in that Opening Ceremony 2012 dress by far.

What a pretty, diverse red carpet this was yesterday. The 2012 Critics’ Choice Television Awards happened at the Beverly Hills Hotel, in L.A. and a lot of different styles and silhouettes were represented through all the fashion present. There was the dramatic, flowing gown courtesy Emmy Rossum‘s metallic Donna Karan number and Neil Lane jewelry. We had the sexy, plunging gown with Busy Phillips‘ Michael Kors black dress. Loved the use of turquoise accents through her Irene Neuwirth necklace and ring, as well. We had romantic, vintage looks with Zooey Deschanel‘s blood orange, full-skirted Oscar de la Renta dress and Alison Brie‘s ’40′s inspired frock, also by de la Renta.
Other best-dressed picks included Sarah Hyland‘s flirty, youthful frock by Collette Dinnigan, and her Modern Family co-star Ariel Winter, who looked just lovely in a white, tiered dress, also by the same designer. Coincidence, much? Lucy Liu‘s girly pale pink gown by Atelier Versace made quite an impression too. But, the sexiest look of the night, by far, goes to Julianne Moore who worked it in a black-and-white bodycon dress by Jason Wu. Her nude Walter Steiger strappy heels worked beautifully with her outfit as well. Special mention also goes to the very toned Regina King, who also wore blood orange like Zooey, but in a shorter, lacy Romona Keveza version. If your interest is piqued, then get thee to the gallery!

If anyone but Meryl Streep had shown up for an awards show in which she’s nominated for The Iron Lady in an iron-colored outfit — well, we would have said something meaner than that it’s a silly pun. But maybe she didn’t intend it as such, and she did look elegant as hell in her Vivienne Westwood onstage at the SAG Awards. And she was among many who chose shades of gray and neutral and cream on Sunday night. Zoe Saldana, Modern Family’s Ariel Winter and Glee’s Naya Rivera chose sparkly numbers that grabbed our attention. Others, like Kristen Wiig and Octavia Spencer, didn’t look bad but seemed less vibrant than their usual selves without color to match their personalities. Maybe we’re just cranky after watching too many acceptance speeches. Browse through the gallery and let us know how you feel about this ongoing trend in the comments below.

There’s a party going on right here at the Beverly Hilton. The Golden Globes truly are a celebration to last through out the year. (Check out our favorite moments from the show!) Dare we say that it might even be the most fun night in Hollywood… EVER. Everyone — press, crew, celebs — is in good spirits, the booze is plentiful, and the emphasis is on having a good time. And everything is so pretty! The Beverly Hilton is a beautiful and iconic spot any day of the week, but there’s something extra magical about tonight’s event. The red carpet actually felt like a living, breathing thing and it. Is. FIERCE.
But the best part of the night was, of course, hearing from the winners, in all their sweet, excited glory. We were stationed in the press room and had the privilege of listening to all their best moments — from the absolutely ridiculous to the downright cry-worthy. We count ‘em down for you below.
- Octavia Spencer kicking her shoes off in the middle of answering questions, and then delivering this important message: “Christian Louboutin, I love you, but when you have this much weigh you gotta give us a little platform.”
- George Clooney answering the “Where is Ryan Gosling?” question: “He’s [working] in Thailand. And you know what they do in Thailand.“
- Matt LeBlanc having a “Joey” moment onstage, answering a reporter’s question with “How you doin’?”
