What is Miley Cyrus suddenly so happy about? How did director Danny Boyle convince Queen Elizabeth II to be in last summer’s Olympic opening ceremony alongside James Bond? All this, plus more, in this morning’s First Dibs.
Considering we’ve had our fair share of amfAR stories on this blog, we’ve realized it’s the place to really push for fashion. Want to change up your look? This is the place? Want to show off fabulous gowns by the really serious designers? Definitely the space. Yesterday’s amfAR gala, held at Cipriani’s Wall Street in New York, was the ideal space to really class things up, considering it was a party to kick off Fall 2013 edition of Fashion Week. And where there’s fashion, there’s Sarah Jessica Parker. We’re still trying to wrap our heads around her Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2013 Couture gown. We love the texture and the fuchsia but are still trying to “get” the black and white skinny, long scarf. The whole thing seems to be swamping her figure. Heidi Klum, as expected, went the sexy route wearing a plunging, shimmering Michael Kors black gown buffed up with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. The two real surprises were Ashley Greene and Lindsay Lohan. Ashley is stunning but she regularly gets one element of her look wrong. Not this time, we thought she looked like a goddess in her white Giambattista Valli gown with the gold laurel leaf belt. The hair worked. The makeup worked. Everything worked. Then there was Lindsay who wore a sparkly, tasseled Theia Spring 2011 gown. Let’s just ignore her hair for a second, because she looks pretty damn okay, right? The gown’s sexy and her body looks good. This is a huge step forward! Now if only her hair and makeup would follow suit — we’d be happy campers.

If you’re close enough to a computer to read this, you’ve obviously heard about the tragedy befallen the town of Newtown, Connecticut. Latest reports say that 18 of the 27 people shot in a school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary are children. Police have announced Adam Lanza as the suspected gunman; his mother was found dead inside the school. If only to distract yourself from the grim procession of new details (and the tears intermittently falling out of your eyes), we gathered celeb tweets for the survivors from everyone from Rihanna to Rashida Jones to Michael Moore. For more serious advice on how to cope with the tragedy, head over to MTV Act.
Cue the “Memories”/”Through the Years”/sappy song of choice. We are tearing up at the thought that tonight is the very last Twilight red carpet of all time, unless, of course, they decide to do that much-debated spin-off movie or, god forbid, remake these for some future generation. We’ll be waxing nostalgic all week, even as we look forward to the movie’s release on Thursday night, and we thought we’d begin with a simple look back at what our favorite stars wore to the big Los Angeles premieres, beginning with the first Twilight in 2008. Stay tuned for plenty more from tonight’s festivities!

Look, we all want to complain about our dating lives all the time. To the UPS delivery person, to the barista, to the guy sitting next to us on the subway with his legs at a 90 degree angle for no reason whatsoever. We try not to though, just because “Debbie Downer” is not a hot look on anybody. So we guess our question is, are interviewers constantly cornering Breaking Dawn star Ashley Greene about her (seemingly hopeless) love life, or is Ashley just currently in that zone where all she can talk about is how lame her dating life is? Either way, we sympathize. Oh wait, no. Just with the second scenario. We don’t have that many interviewers pounding down our door…
Halloween is almost here, and it’s definitely not just for kids anymore! These days it’s less about the mini candy bars and more about the seriously hot mini outfits. October 31st has become the unofficial the last gasp of bikini season, the final strip-off before winter sets in and everyone turns into Slanket mummies for 6 months. But for now, the goal is to be the most creative with the least amount of clothing. And no one does that better than Hollywood A-listers! These stars have brought us some truly awesome costumes over the years. Who could forget Kim Kardashian as Jasmine, Mariah Carey as a scantily clad bride(?) and Snooki as…the Queen of the Pickles? We think? Okay, we’ll be honest: we don’t know what a lot of these outfits are supposed to be. But that’s the magic of Halloween: We don’t have to! It’s the one night of the year where it’s not skanky, it’s a costume! Tons of stars and starlets have stripped down to celebrate over the years, so we’ve assembled the 75(!) most scarily sexy costumes of all time. Just think of it as a big basket of fun-sized Snickers on a doorstep and a sign that says “Help Yourself.” Dive in!

Our bad, people. We searched our memories and our archives and realized we had spoken about the fact that Reeve Carney and Ashley Greene were, in fact, dating — it’s number 12 on the list of the story we just linked. But that little bit of information totally slipped our minds. Maybe it’s because Ashley’s got serious game and will always be the quintessential player in our minds. Seriously, the lady’s dated most of everyone we find hot, with Ian Somerhalder, Gerard Butler and Chace Crawford to name a few dudes. Carney, her now ex-boyfriend, plays Spider-man on Broadway, FYI. And even though they’d been dating ten odd months, they’re now dunzo, with US Weekly reporting, “They are over. Reeve seems to be fine and it was just crazy with their schedules.” But what about Ashley? She seems to be okay too, debuting a new red hairdo and jetting off to South Africa. We wonder how long they’ve been broken up. Ashley was just lamenting the lack of a boyfriend to Marie Claire, as she is their cover girl for the November issue. I’ve gotten very good at detaching whenever I have to go away for three months, which I realize is hard on friends and kind of selfish,” she says. “You go on a couple of dates, and then someone ships off to do a movie. It’s not like you’re going to fly out and see them, because it’s not serious enough for that.” Now we just want to give her a hug.

I want to preface this post by saying that, coincidentally, I now have the same hair as Ashley Greene‘s thanks to the fact that she just dyed her hair red. Maybe she and I can be BFF and discuss her need for a new wardrobe. That hair requires a whole lot of different clothing, as is evidenced by her outfit today. I really do want to love the hair on her but I find it ages her unnecessarily. She’s such a pretty pretty girl, that the color may just be too harsh on her. She was spotted with the new dye job in New York while have lunch with some friends. Ashley’s going to be making her way to South Africa to promote Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. Her twitter gave us a heads up, as she tweeted, “Not gonna lie- I’m a little bummed to leave NYC while the weather is so perfect. But the fact i’m headed to South Africa makes it ok!” Wonder if she’s going to take her new hair with her? If so, I’m curious about her red carpet plan! Because she’s been doing fantastically at events of late, and that chestnut hair worked on her like a dream. Seriously, do you like this new hair? Here’s a little reminder and a comparison as to what she used to look like before the weekend. Vote and let us know which Ashley avatar you prefer —- brunette or redhead.

It turns out that perfect skin, razor-sharp cheekbones and an amazing wardrobe does not guarantee that you will find a boyfriend. But…but…but that’s what all the magazines have been saying! What are we going to spend our money on now? We also would have though a burgeoning film career would help us suss out a significant other, but, as Ashley Greene points out, being a busy actress does not a healthy relationship make. “I’m always here and there – everyone in my industry is,” the Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 actress admits to Marie Claire. “[A]nd that’s why a lot of relationships are fleeting.”
Defying our understanding of reality, Ashley is only the second famous lady to complain about her love life today; Rihanna shared a similar plight in her Vogue interview just this morning. Muses Greene, “I’ve gotten very good at detaching whenever I have to go away for three months, which I realize is hard on friends and kind of selfish. You go on a couple of dates, and then someone ships off to do a movie. It’s not like you’re going to fly out and see them, because it’s not serious enough for that.” Okay, but isn’t the entire point of being rich and famous that you can do insane things like fly all over the world and buy a house next to your boyfriend’s grandma? Taylor Swift, you know what we’re talking about!

Nothing like a spot of polo over the weekend. It all looks so elegant with the pretty dresses, tea and champagne. And hot polo players. The Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic is an annual affair that most of Hollywood’s ladies turn up for because it’s such great fashion exposure for them. By the looks of it, this year was the third time in a row they threw a quite successful event, held at the Will Rogers State Historic Park in Pacific Palisades, California. Ashley Greene led the festivities in a gorgeous white Antonio Berardi bandage dress with nude pumps by Giuseppe Zanotti. Kaley Cuoco looked light and summery in a printed Brian Rennie for Basler dress — love the pocket detailing. Rose McGowan was there too, wearing a purple Philip Lim jumpsuit, Brian Atwood shoes and a Bruno Magli clutch. Mandy Moore wore almost the same shade, but in a printed dress version by Lela Rose with Christian Loubotin heels. Our best-dressed goes to Alessandra Ambrosio who wore an amazing color-blocked, maxi BCBGMAXAZRIA dress. We’re also totally feeling Selma Blair‘s Skaist Taylor blue jumpsuit and Marc Jacobs sandals.
One more panel left after the jump, so have a look and tell us whose looks you dug the most! There’s Rachel Zoe, Rebecca Romjin and Lauren Conrad‘s outfits too! Read more…
