The Golden Globes are one of the biggest red carpet fashion nights of the year. Television stars mingle with Hollywood royalty, mega stars accessorize with hot arm candy and some of the biggest beauties in the world make major fashion faux pas. Some of these celebrities might be taking home an award tonight, but that doesn’t stop them from being the worst dressed.
Awards season is kicking off this week, with the one-two punch of the People’s Choice Awards and the Golden Globes, and we are giddy with anticipation. And no, not to see our favorite movies and TV shows collect some hardware as their stars and creators thank their agents — c’mon, you know us better than that. We watch for those magical unscripted moments that happen thanks to someone pre-partying a little too hard, or, in the case of the Globes, hitting that free bubbly at the tables (Glenn Close GIF, we love you forever). It’s a magical thing that happens to stars big (Liz Taylor!) and small (aw, Lil Mama), at all kinds of kudosfests. Here we’re counting down our 10 favoritesssst munk droments:
The summer of North West, Amanda Bynes, Superman and foam fingers is coming to a close, and we thought we could use a little more eye candy to get us through the Labor Day weekend (all that sunshine and BBQ gets old after a while). But this isn’t just any eye candy.
In case you missed the memo (called Sex and the City), we ladies like our sex comedies as raunch as the next guy. And The To Do List, this weekend’s entry into the “losing it” subgenre of sex comedies, is just the kind of raunch we love most — not too graphic or demeaning, just enough to make you not want to watch next to your parents. If, like the movie’s control freak valedictorian Brandy Klark (Aubrey Plaza), you don’t want to enter the theater without doing your homework first, read on for the 10 essential things you should know about this weekend’s new release:
1. You don’t have to have gone to school in the ’90s to enjoy it, but it’s like 100 times funnier if you can sympathize with the characters’ terrible taste in music, hideous prints, worship of Eddie Vedder and Hillary Clinton, and complete lack of cell phones or Google. Picture this, kids: instead of Tumblr, you would decorate your wall and your Trapper Keeper with your favorite magazine articles and spreads.
Whoa now: It looks like Aubrey Plaza pulled a “Kanye” at the MTV Movie Awards, crashing the stage in the middle of Will Ferrell’s speech. Will was in the midst of accepting his Comedic Genius Golden Popcorn when a barefoot Aubrey bounded towards the stage and made a grab for the award. “What’s happening?” he asked, echoing the thoughts of pretty much everyone watching. “Are you ok?”
Could Aubrey Plaza win a Golden Popcorn next year for her performance in The To-Do List? Why did Mariah Carey literally shower an American Idol contestant in glitter last night? And why is Charlie Brown not such a good guy after all?
Sound the alarms, beat the drums, and for goodness sake make the popcorn! The 2013 MTV Movie Awards are coming on SUNDAY APRIL 14TH AT 9 PM. Let’s hope the all-caps got your attention. If you loved last night’s Pain & Gain livestream with Mark Wahlberg and Michael Bay, well then you’re in luck: We’re coming atcha tonight at 10:30 PM with a second helping of behind-the-scenes movie livestream goodness. This time we’re going to be speaking with Aubrey Plaza and Scott Porter about their staring roles in The To Do List!
Guys, this is looks good. Like Mean Girls good. Immediately following the announcement that it would premiere February 14, 2013, the To Do List trailer ticked off all the things we want to see in a teen movie. Things like Bill Hader, Donald Glover, Alia Shawkat, Rachel Bilson, and skorts. Most importantly, the To Do List has Parks and Rec‘s Aubrey Plaza as the goody-goody nerdlinger protagonist, who tries to put some notches on her belt before going off to college…with hilarious consequences! It goes without saying there will be hilarious consequences, right? So go on and watch the (sort of NSFW) trailer. It perfectly fulfills all our teen comedy needs. Needs like:
We are so incredibly sad that Christina Hendricks is on this list, and not the 10 best-dressed list at the 2012 Critics’ Choice Television Awards yesterday at the Beverly Hills Hotel in L.A. She is such a beauty, but the overwhelming response to this black, chiffon-paneled dress is — meh. Someone needs to give her a shot of Joan’s (her character in Mad Men) mojo in the dressing department because she hasn’t been getting it right for some time now. This is a nightgown, while Christina deserves an honest-to-goodness dress to do her justice.
Aubrey Plaza made the same gauzy mistake. It looks crushed, and the sleeves are kind of random. Plus, it draws attention to her ombre colored hair. She can do — and has done, up till now — way better than this. Lastly, we have Ginnifer Goodwin, whose “I want to be an edgy fashionista” instincts often blur her common sense. We feel that she knows that she wants to look fabulous in certain designs, but it never pans out the way she wants. For example, this Viktor & Rolf Fall 2012 dress was cool on the runway, but it was worn by a giraffe! Ginny’s got a great body, and fantastic skin, but the dress needs a taller person. She’s kind of overwhelmed by it, and it’s wearing her. The eggshell blue nails don’t help. Next time, ladies … next time.

What’s young Hollywood without young, hot Hollywood right? Keeping that in mind, the Young Hollywood Awards took place last night at the Hollywood Athletic Club and paid homage to all the young stars who have created a massive buzz already in the span of their relatively shorter careers. Ashley Greene led the troupe, looking absolutely gorgeous in a black Donna Karan corset and cropped black pencil pants. Donna Karan is the actress’ go-to red carpet dresser, considering Ashley is the face of DKNY. Also looking ah-maizing was Ginnifer Goodwin who wore a sexy, yet lady-like, lacy white Monique Lhuillier dress which she accessorized with Christian Louboutin studded pumps, Jennifer Meyer earrings, and a studded Edie Parker clutch. Love the matte raspberry lips as well. Big win for Ginny G.
We’re also so happy that we spotted Hailee Steinfeld after ages. Where ya been, gurl? (Other than shooting Ender’s Game, of course.) Also, was she always this tall or does the outfit elongate her? She wore silver a Prabal Gurung top and pants with an Edie Parker clutch, like Ginnifer, but with a House of Lavande bracelet, and Brian Atwood shoes. Can’t say anyone else could pull of that amount of shiny silver, but Hailee sure can. Could Cody Horn smile a little more, please? We actually like her Marios Schwab burgundy dress and strappy Rupert Sanderson heels, but the sour face has got to go! Making up for her in the sunshine department was Sophia Bush who wore a chevron-printed Herve Leger, which thankfully, was not as skin tight as most starlets like to wear the label. Got to love her classic Christian Louboutin “Pigalle” pumps and her “lips” clutch by Lulu Guinness too. There’s more, but you’re going to have to get to our gallery to take a look.
