The Year of the Supermodel: How Cara, Karlie, and Kendall Became Household Names

It’s been a while since supermodels were household names. In the ’90s, runway icons like  Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Tyra Banks, and Cindy Crawford set a standard for what the model-turned-celebrity could do. The idea reemerged in the mid-2000s when Gisele Bündchen, Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, and other Victoria’s Secret Angels translated their skills to reality television, film, and endorsements. Now, in the Insta-era, a new crop of fresh faces is redefining the idea of “supermodel”all over again. And frankly, they’re the most fun group yet.

This past week was meme overload. After Kim Kardashian’s nude photos for Paper magazine were released, celebs took to Instagram to poke fun at the reality star’s racy shoot. James Franco joined the “break the Internet” game by putting his face on Kim’s body, and later posted his own naked photo with pal Seth Rogen.
