The NBA finals kicked off last Thursday night, and before either the Miami Heat or the San Antonio Spurs bask in the glory of being 2013’s national champions, we’re taking a moment to recognize the league’s tall drinks of water for other skills: their ability to dress.
Y’all know that sports things usually go way over our head here at VH1 Celebrity, and when it comes to gossip surrounding the love lives of VH1’s own stars, we bow down to the expertise of Liz Black at VH1 Blog. But we couldn’t stay silent about the stories swirling around the words exchanged between Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett during and after the Celtics-Knicks game at MSG on Monday night. The stars had to be separated on court, and following the Knicks’ loss, Melo contradicted his nickname, yelling at Garnett outside the locker room and as the Celtics boarded their bus. What’s caught our attention this morning is the contents of Garnett’s insult, which Anthony categorized as “something you just don’t say to men, another man.”
What was this indecent comment? According to Black Sports Online, several sources confirmed that the Celtic said Carmelo’s wife La La Anthony “tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios.”
There’s nothing more aw-worthy than seeing celebrities from different industries become fans of each other. Justin Bieber tweeted at U.S. Olympic swimmer, Missy Franklin today that he heard that she’s a fan of his. “Now im a fan of hers too. CONGRATS on winning GOLD!” and added the very adorable “#muchlove” tag. We wish we saw more of this celeb interaction! Athletes are glued to their headphones before competition to get pumped up in London and some Olympians have confessed their love for certain artists. What we’d like to see is these artists responding with support for the folks who are seriously earning their celebrity status this summer.
- Ryan Lochte loves Lil Wayne. How much so, you ask? Well, Wayne’s song “Sky’s the Limit” is on Lochte’s pump-up playlist. Not only that but Lochte’s dog’s name is Carter, named after a certain Dwayne Michael Carter, aka rapper Lil Wayne. Oh, yeah, and there are those grills.
- The Dream Team’s LeBron James loves Big K.R.I.T. James said that Big K.R.I.T’s song, “I Got This” “was one of [the Miami Heat’s] theme songs this year.”
Who would’ve thought it takes Carmelo Anthony longer to get ready than his always well-put-together wife La La? These two, blowing up stereotypes all over the place. One of the cutest basketball couples ever stopped by the annual Met Costume Gala last night looking amazing in blue and black. La La’s custom-made Zac Posen gown was the perfect royal blue, and it accentuated her curves in all the right places. Carmelo was spiffy in his black Rag & Bone tux, paired with wide frame hipster glasses.
When VH1 News asked who took the longest, La La revealed, “He always takes longer than I do, absolutely,” she said. “When it comes to getting dressed, he is so slow.”
What takes the NY Knick so long? “I don’t know. I procrastinate,” he said. “I got to play the music, I got to take my time. I don’t like to be rushed.”
The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards took place on Monday night at the Skylight in New York. Young Hollywood was well rep’d by the likes of Amanda Seyfried, Joe Jonas, Chloe Moretz, Mia Wasikowska, Zoe Kravitz and Olivia Wilde. It was couple’s night as well with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, La La and Carmelo Anthony, Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell and Cobra Starship‘s Gabe Saporta with designer Erin Featherstone making an appearance. The event was presided over by the steely eyes of Anna Wintour, so you know everyone rethought their outfits at least five times before heading out.

Partay time at Lincoln Center in New York yesterday! Stars poured in for the Time’s 100 Gala celebrating Time’s 100 Most Influential People for 2011. We’re proud to say that three of our Top 5 WTF people on the list turned up! Leading that parade was a gorgeous Blake Lively who debuted a new strawberry blonde ‘do. We love it, and we loved her in that sexy Zuhair Murad gown. We reckon she’s on the list for most influential boobs and legs, right? Rain, the South Korean pop star, just looked happy to be there. And Mark Wahlberg, as chiseled as ever, showed up with his sexyface on.
We also love Amy Poehler and Aziz Ansari far too much, so we’re just going to pass on talking about their outfits. But we will talk about freshly brewed brunette Anna Kendrick who wore a black cocktail frock with a dangerously low plunging neckline! She better have put in a whole roll of double-sided tape for that one! Our Ultimate FAB Icon, Chris Colfer, had to be there too! Oprah‘s best buddy, Gayle King, showed up as well looking pretty fine in a cerulean blue gown, and the musician crowd was well-repped by Bruno Mars and ?uestlove. There’s more, folks, so check out our gallery below.
