With the entire series of Friends now on Netflix, our all of our post-work hours have been devoted to reliving the glory days with Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe. Sure, the show lives on every single channel you turn to on a random weekend afternoon or a late sleepless night. But its new life on the streaming service is giving us unlimited access to our favorite comfort show like never before.
Halloween means candy corn, haunted houses, and your dad wearing that musty vampire outfit yet again. But it also means Halloween specials on TV! Throughout the years, the small screen has captured the fun of dressing up for the holidays. It’s a time for our favorite characters to get creative and just a tad inappropriate as they sport costumes from the topical, the slutty, or other clever ideas that perfectly reflect their own personalities. Here’s a list of some of our favorite Halloween costumes from TV over the years that may give you some inspiration of what to do…and what not to do.
Best Mystery Costume – The Slutty Pumpkin (How I Met Your Mother): It was that crisp, autumnal night on Halloween when Ted Mosby thought he met the love of his life…in a costume that has become the show’s famed “Slutty Pumpkin.” Though her face was veiled, this mystery woman became the object of Ted’s harvest-filled fantasies. Many years later, we discovered that the woman was none other than Katie Holmes! Even though the costume doesn’t have much originality, we give them props for mocking the “slutty fill-in-the-blank” outfit.
It’s impossible to imagine watching an episode of Friends without seeing the familiar faces of Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow and Matt Leblanc. The chemistry generated between the gang made it one of the most iconic lineups in TV history. Hell, they’re like the Beatles of situation comedies! John, Paul, George and Kevin just doesn’t have the same ring to it, y’know? So by the same token, it’s a little jarring to see the original casting choices for the legendary show.
The news comes to us from the folks at Vanity Fair, who are running an “oral history” of the series in their latest issue. It’s definitely fascinating to see how television history might have turned out. Could Jon Cryer have been a snarkier Chandler? Would Tea Leoni have made a better Rachel? Tantalizing questions indeed! Click under the jump to see which celebs almost played your favorite Friends!
We were certainly surprised when Courteney Cox and David Arquette announced their separation but we weren’t ready for even more Friends-related marriage gossip today. David Schwimmer and his girlfriend Zoe Buckman secretly got married back in June and somehow they managed to keep it under the radar until now.
Schwimmer and Buckman met in 2007 and were engaged earlier this year. It’s the first marriage for both, but the fourth if you count Schwimmer’s fictional alter ego Ross Geller, after his failed nuptials with Carol the lesbian, Emily the British chick, and Rachel, after a drunk night in Vegas. That guy had the worst luck.
Congrats to the newlyweds!
Just  the other day, we were thinking how it really takes a special person to be able to pull off a fedora. On some people, the hats look fresh, summery and cool. On others, they’re just kinda douchey. Maybe we have an irrational hate because Scrubs got so effing bad these past couple years, but we’re thinking that the combination of Zach Braff, his hat, his sunglasses and his date’s annoying forehead-headband are in the douchey camp.
Braff and his girlfriend, model Taylor Bagley, were at the Public Theater Gala along with a who’s who of theater-types, including Al Pacino, Naomi Watts, Liev Schreiber and David Schwimmer. Schwimmer, by the by, debuted some new bangs that are somewhat Bieber-esque but still better than Ross Geller’s gelmet head  that so haunted us during Friends.
