Can American Horror Story: Asylum Shock Us After “The Coat Hanger”? 10 Other Burning Questions

This week's Coat Hanger episode of American Horror Story: Asylum had its most shocking scene yet

American Horror Story: Asylum has portrayed it all — from murders to amputations, Ryan Murphy leaves nothing to the imagination. Still, we are used to many of these graphic scenes just from visiting our local movie theater during Halloween season. As gruesome as it is, we are accustomed to the blood spewing, the white-tiled basement filled with murderous tools, and the exorcisms. We love Murphy’s wink to the horror genre and his dramatic flair, but this week’s episode seemed more disturbing than the usual stabbing. Lana Winters finds out she’s pregnant with Dr. Thredson’s baby and is determined to have an abortion — hence the title of the episode “The Coat Hanger.” The titular scene was probably one of the most disturbing things I’ve seen on this show so far. Now that they’ve depicted such a thing, what else can really be portrayed? Have we overcome the shock factor? Where do we go from here? The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of our favorite movies of the year, chock full of teen angst, great music and stellar performances from the young cast. We dug deep into the photo archives and grabbed some ridiculously adorable photos of the Perks crew from when they were at their very youngest. Yes, you’ve got Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller and the most precious and wee Emma Watson. But there are more amazing discoveries to be made, like Mae Whitman‘s child star past and Paul Rudd‘s inability to age.

The Campaign‘s Will Ferrell, Dylan McDermott Describe Their Very Different Political Histories

In any election year, there are moments when it’s difficult to tell the difference between real political coverage and, say, The Onion or The Daily Show. That’s precisely why director Jay Roach felt Will Ferrell’s and Zach Galifianakis’ candidates in The Campaign had to be unmistakably over the top — to make sure you can tell them apart from the comedians asking for our votes this November. But when VH1 interviewed the stars of the movie, which opens today, about their own political experiences, it turns out this movie wasn’t all about acting for them. Ferrell, for example, might be living out his failed attempt at local government.

“I was part of a committee in my neighborhood to close down all our streets and to make our own kind of encampment and take down all our doors and live as a commune,” he told us, quite seriously. “That was kind of like a local government thing.”

But alas, his campaign didn’t work. “No, no one wanted to listen to me.”

By contrast, Dylan McDermott, who plays Galifianakis’ character’s assassin-like campaign manager, once made use of his celebrity status to make a guest appearance at the Democratic National Convention, when Al Gore was nominated as the presidential candidate in 2000. That may have turned out to be the pinnacle of his political career, however.

Which Stars Were At Coachella This Weekend And What Were They Doing?

We’ll give you the juice about who was at Coachella this weekend in a minute, but first we’d like to give props to the very lovely Emma Watson. It was her birthday yesterday and what better way to celebrate than at the festival? Actually, she did find a better way to celebrate — canoodling with a fine mystery man as you can see in the photograph on the left. Happy birthday, indeed. Next up, we got Katy Perry who has traded her bright blue Smurf hair for a darker black with deep purple highlights. She pulls off the hippie headband, doesn’t she? Someone else wearing said headband (with fewer clothes on) was Paris Hilton, who is now fully exploring her music festival avatar thanks to boyfriend, Afrojack.

Someone who really can’t carry off hippie, but is one regardless, is Vanessa Hudgens, who wore sheer thigh-highs for some odd reason. She attended the festival with boyfriend Austin Butler. Other couples included squee-worthy Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, Fergie and Josh Duhamel and Kate Bosworth with Michael Polish. Two faces we didn’t expect to see were Dylan McDermott and Pierce Brosnan. For the full list of expected and unexpected stars, get thee to the gallery below.

Aw, remember when Bradley Cooper was just a sweet newspaper reporter with an unrequited crush on his superspy best friend? We doubt Alias‘ Will would believe today’s news — that Brad is People‘s Sexiest Man Alive — but the rest of us aren’t so surprised.
