Purple popped up as a trend at the 66th Annual Tony Awards this weekend. Although sadly, our younger crop of stars didn’t exactly wear the color well. Laura Bell Bundy‘s purple embellished gown with the sweetheart neckline is so shiny it hurts our eyes. She has got to step away from the satin! We also can’t believe that Amanda Seyfried messed up. It’s hard for her to look bad because she’s so damn gorgeous. Her face her is just stunning with that slash of red lipstick, but the purple Givenchy dress with the loud orange belt just doesn’t work. We normally love orange and purple together, but the problem here is that the dress looks like a slip. These two should have taken a page or out of Bernadette Peters and Ellen Barkin‘s books.
Bernadette, at 64, as a an absolute knock-out in an eggplant dramatic Donna Karan gown. Ellen, at 58, is effortless in a purple lacy L’Wren Scott gown. The hair and makeup could have been worked on, but that’s just a small quibble. We’re hoping we look as good as them when we get older, because Ellen and Bernadette are seriously foxy! And poor Laura and Amanda were simple outfoxed this time around.
