From Emma Stone and Carey Mulligan to Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Stewart and Rooney Mara, there’s an ever-expanding group of women on the cusp of adulthood who have already landed firmly on the big screen’s A-list. And while we’re all about girl power, we’ve been wondering: Where the heck are their male contemporaries? Surely the next generation of Ben Afflecks and Bradley Coopers are out there, just waiting to be mentioned on a list like this! Look no further, friends — we’ve got our eye on 13 future big-screen big deals, and have rounded them up for your analysis below.  Some, like Robert Sheehan, Nick Hoult and Max Irons are part of the YA book-to-movie phenomenon. Others, like Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller, are recent Sundance darlings. Emma Watson For Prime Minister! Perks Co-Star And Director Launch Her Campaign

We here at VH1 are maybe getting a little election weary, so we decided to spice things up a bit in the last stretch before November 6. Our own Kate Spencer started asking stars at last week’s Hollywood Awards to nominate each other for office, and we absolutely love the response she got from The Perks of Being a Wallflower writer/director Stephen Chbosky and star Ezra Miller.

“You know, believe it or not, Emma Watson,” Chbosky said, nominating another of his Perks stars.

“Emma Watson is such a good choice!” Miller agreed. “I think she would be a brilliant diplomat or something. She’s an incredibly brilliant communicator, incredibly compassionate, too.”

“This is not red carpet stuff,” Chbosky assured us.

“Man, but she couldn’t be president ’cause she wasn’t born here,” Miller noted. But Chbosky reasoned, “Prime minister! There are other countries.”

We dug deep into the photo archives and grabbed some ridiculously adorable photos of the Perks crew from when they were at their very youngest. Yes, you’ve got Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller and the most precious and wee Emma Watson. But there are more amazing discoveries to be made, like Mae Whitman‘s child star past and Paul Rudd‘s inability to age.

Perks Of Being A Wallflower’s Ezra Miller, Mae Whitman On How Cast “Fell In Love With Each Other”

Perks of Being A Wallflower cast

In The Perks of Being a Wallflower, an introverted boy named Charlie survives the hardships of high school by finding his place in a group of misfits. The magic of Stephen Chbosky’s novel and movie is that the warmth and spirit of these friends leaps off the page, making you believe in their relationships and feel like you too are a part of their quirky group. Miraculously, the same thing happens in Chbosky’s movie — and we think that’s due to his intuitive casting process which gathered a group of actors who became fast friends on the set in Pittsburgh.

“We sort of all fell in love with each other immediately and we still are to this day,” Mae Whitman, who plays Mary Elizabeth, told VH1 Celebrity. “I mean we spent every night together hanging out in hotel rooms and playing music and being loud and crazy. It was really like an experience of a lifetime for me. It was really amazing.”

Ezra Miller (Patrick) also told us about those afterparties. “The best times for me were in these stuffy hotel rooms where all of us would amass nightly and just play music and kind of lose ourselves in sound and in our relationships with one another,” he recalled.

That kind of instant friendship seems to be rooted in the fact that these were all people Chbosky himself clicked with right away. “We had auditioned two people for [Charlie], and [Logan Lerman] was the second one. Five seconds into the audition, and I knew he was the kid,” he told us. “I knew these characters so well, and I knew them from the inside out, far more than what I thought they looked like. When I sat down with Emma in NY I knew I met a kindred spirit and I knew I had Sam. And when I did the callback with Ezra over Skype, even though it was over Skype, I just knew I’d found Patrick.

Ezra Miller Explains VMA Outfit Just The Way His Perks Of Being A Wallflower Character Would

Ezra Miller at the VMAs and in The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Perks of Being a Wallflower star Ezra Miller was probably too busy jetting from the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles to the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend to notice that some of us — however reluctantly — had put him in our VMA Worst-Dressed list. But when VH1 Celebrity told him on the phone on Sunday that his outfit had been a “point of contention,” he smelled our BS all the way from Canada.

“Why don’t you just cut to the chase and tell me the honest opinion in the office about the caballero suit. I don’t need watered-down tales of unfabricated opinions,” he challenged. Well, we admitted, we did say he looked like a long-lost member of the Black Crowes.

“Oh no, oh no, oh no! See, horrible misinterpretation!” he exclaimed, before describing the unusual suit’s provenance. “I got it from a spot in Los Angeles, which is called Golyester and I just walked in, saw it, and was like, ‘Oh, this is this the dopest thing I’ve ever seen. I’m definitely going to wear this tonight at the VMAs.’ And then these awesome two women who work at Golyester named Zoey and Rebecca sewed it into shape and sold it me for a bargain. And yeah that’s pretty much the story. As for inspiration, it was a pretty inspired piece to begin with, in my humble opinion.”

As he told us this story, we weren’t imagining Ezra the actor as much as Patrick, the sweet, adventurous, openly gay, Rocky Horror Picture Show fan he plays in Perks. That same defiant individuality shines through in both of them. “I was drawn to this character, because he’s self-determined and he’s self-aware and he stands on his own two feet and he maintains his own dignity and his own pride, despite the sort of troubling circumstances that surround him and all of these conditions that challenge him and sort of seek to potentially degrade him,” he told us. “I was drawn to the character who stood in the midst of that storm, with his integrity intact.”

VMAs 10 Worst Dressed? Katy Perry, Ezra Miller, Nicki Minaj And Others We Hate To List Here

Ezra Miller, Sammi Sweetheart, Katy Perry among the worst dressed at the VMAs

This is always a tough one, guys. You’re supposed to take risks at the MTV Video Music Awards. You’re supposed to be a rock star. But sometimes that backfires. Sometimes you wind up looking like a Christmas tree, and sometimes you’re so scared of winding up on a list like this that you dress like you’re attending a ladies’ luncheon. That’s why we really, really hate to list some of the people we love both here. Taylor Swift, you looked lovely in that white suit — but like you were about to attend an event with your adoptive Kennedy family. And Alicia Keys, you were so close with most of your golden goddess look, until the part where it swallowed your legs. Katy Perry’s gown also could have been improved by a little tweaking. We would have been OK with Ezra Miller looking like a long-lost member of the Black Crowes — he is so awesome in Perks of Being a Wallflower that we love everything he does — but it was distracting from the beauty of Emma Watson’s outfit. And we’ve already mentioned Miley Cyrus borrowing Pink’s steez, but we haven’t yet talked about how she also seemed to be inspired by Morticia Addams. We’re also reluctant to put Nicki Minaj here, since she’s always in a category of her own, but there just seemed to be no unifying theme to her lace bodysuit chauffeur thingy. Our point is, nothing you’ll see here is unforgivable. It’s just, well, disappointing? Peruse the gallery and tell us what you think!

New Perks Of Being A Wallflower Clip Makes Us Wish We Had More Awesome Outcast Friends

Based on this new Perks of Being a Wallflower clip, we’d say Charlie really lucked out: validated for his coolness, toasted by a crop of new friends, welcomed by a gorgeous Emma Watson. If this movie was based on our life, we’d get into a fight with our outcast friends about being four hours late to pick us up at Dairy Queen, and then they’d throw our shoes in the ditch. Haha, just kidding! It would be a Dunkin’ Donuts. Good thing everyone we’ve talked to so far absolutely loves Perks, or we’d be downright consumed by jealousy.

When it comes to wanting more awesome outcast friends, though, we of course mean our own personal Patrick, as portrayed by the illimitable Ezra Miller. “Ezra’s a force of nature. He is so free and he is generous and he is so nice, and we, God did we luck out because I had Emma and Logan [Lerman] really early on, I knew I had Sam and Charlie covered,” Perks director Stephen Chbosky told MTV, who debuted the clip yesterday. “Patrick was the wild card, we auditioned a lot of people, some really good people, but ultimately, he was the only choice for that part. And he brought so much life and freedom to the role, just I count my lucky stars. I cannot believe it.” Man, why can’t Patrick tell us, “You see things and you understand. You’re a wallflower”? Plus, Charlie gets to drink some kind of milkshake? Come on. Come on.

New Images From Perks Of Being A Wallflower Make Us Yearn To Be Pals With Emma Watson

New Images Released From 'Perks Of Being A Wallflower"

We just realized — there’s just a little over a month to go until Perks of Being a Wallflower comes out (in select theaters, on September 21). Will the film end up being a cult classic like the novel it’s been adapted from? Only time will tell, but this new lot of photographs from Summit Entertainment, makes us want to grab some caramel popcorn and watch it now. That’s a good sign. More than anything, these photographs articulate everything we know of the movie’s characters already. Who wouldn’t want to be tight with Emma Watson‘s Sam? Even though the photograph above looks a tad Titanic-esque. The trailer for Perks of Being a Wallflower was released two months ago, and it had all the signs of turning into the go-to film this fall. Epic shots, the trials and tribulations of growing up, the angst of teen romance … what’s not to love? More than anything, Emma, along with Logan Lerman‘s Charlie and Ezra Miller‘s Patrick have real chemistry together as an ensemble. Take a look at the gallery below of all the latest photographs to see what we’re talking about.

FYI, this has been the second time the movie’s been in the news this week. The first was because of the Out September cover featuring Miller, Lerman and Johnny Simmons (who portrays Brad) where Ezra comes out as “queer” saying, “I’m queer. I have a lot of really wonderful friends who are of very different sexes and genders. I am very much in love with no one in particular. I’ve been trying to figure out relationships, you know? I don’t know if it’s responsible for kids of my age to be so aggressively pursuing monogamous binds, because I don’t think we’re ready for them …” It’s a really lovely piece that weaves together the making of the film, with the lives of the three actors, so have a read. But first … to the gallery!

Embrace Your Not-So-Angelic Fictional Boyfriends Of The Week — And Who Should Play Them On TV

Dave Franco and Ezra Miller, our casting choices for a TV show based on "Embrace"

Angels have been a big trend in young adult fiction for a couple of years now, and while I’ve read my fair share of novels about Nephilim and demon fighters and fallen Seraphim and all the rest, I have to admit this isn’t a topic that naturally draws me in. Often angel-themed books have to spend a lot of time explaining their mythology — which is far from standard Judeo-Christian beliefs — before you can get to know the characters. While Fictional Boyfriends I’m about to introduce you to are steeped in their own world too, something about them will draw you in immediately. No joke, I read this book in a single afternoon without coming up for air.

Who: Lincoln and Phoenix

From: Embrace, by Jessica Shirvington

What’s Their Story? Violet Eden met Lincoln a few years ago in a self-defense class and immediately started crushing on him, but the older boy has kept their relationship strictly platonic as he’s taken her on as his private kickboxing/running/rock-climbing student. It turns out, he’s actually something called a Grigori, a half-angel/half-human guardian charged with sending rogue angels on earth back to their own realm. And Violet’s the half-angel destined to be his partner … if she chooses to “Embrace” the Grigori life too.

Violet sensed something strange about Phoenix when they met on the dance floor on her 17th birthday, and the way he tracked her down certainly is creepy. It turns out he’s actually one of the aforementioned rogue angels living on earth. He swears to Violet that he’s got not evil intentions and just really wants to live like a human … and enjoy Vi’s intimate company.

Why We Love Them: Lincoln didn’t have to find Violet and train her before her 17th birthday, but he wanted to. And it turns out he’s been keeping things firmly in the friends zone because to be more to each other would be dangerous. That kind of protective instinct and self control is admirable, and super frustrating. But when he whispers, “Did you ever think we would be anything other than unbelievable?” our knees give way as much as Vi’s. Phoenix, on the other hand, doesn’t play hard to get. He’s got the allure of the completely smitten bad-boy, which Violet can’t resist. Especially since she’s all but given up on Lincoln. Sometimes, the challenge of taming someone so dangerous is an aphrodisiac on its own.

Where Will This Love Go Next? Book two of the series, Entice, is due out in the states on September 15. I’ve heard rumors that the book is being considered for an American TV series, which sounds awesome: It would mean so many opportunities to see Lincoln and Violet as an angel-fighting, humanity-saving team. Plus I can see big potential with Vi’s best friend Steph if she had some screen time. As for fantasy casting, I’m dreaming big for Lincoln, who’s described as having sun-streaked brown hair and a tan: Dave Franco. I can certainly picture a girl crushing on that grin of his. And for black-haired, dark-eyed Phoenix, I’d love to see Perks of Being a Wallflower‘s Ezra Miller in the role — he looks dangerous and heart-melting all at once. It’s hard to imagine either of these up-and-comers going to TV at the moment, but I can dream, can’t I?

Emma Watson Makes Us Almost Miss High School In The Brand New Perks Of Being A Wallflower Trailer

Based on the trailer that premiered during tonight’s MTV Movie Awards, the biggest perk of being a wallflower would be getting to hang out with Emma Watson and her perfect pixie cut. That prom scene! We swooned. We squeed. Joined by costars Ezra Miller and Logan Lerman, Watson sparkles as new friend/possibly requited crush Sam to Lerman’s titular wallflower. “And in this moment, I swear we were infinite,” his Charlie wonders aloud from the back of a pickup. Um, seriously. Never has driving into Pittsburgh looked so epic!

Emma Watson Stars In Perks Of Being A Wallflower

But we’re not just into the film for Emma’s crop, though that is 60% to 70% of why we love this trailer. We’re also into the sweet little nerdling romance! “Why do I and everyone I love pick people who treat us like we’re nothing?” Watson’s Sam wonders. “We accept the love we think we deserve,” Charlie tells her. Yup, we are already ready to tear up. “You see things and you understand. You’re a wallflower,” Miller’s Patrick proclaims. Sadly, all you wallflowers are going to have to wait until September 14 to see Emma in action, but boy, is our journal going to hear about this!
