The Adventures of Pluto Nash, Daddy Day Care, Meet Dave, Shrek Forever After: if we said Eddie Murphy has literally spent the last decade making movies for people incapable of tying their own shoes, we would hardly be exaggerating. How can someone make Dreamgirls between Norbit and Shrek 2? He almost won an Oscar for that role!
Luckily if the Tower Heist trailer is any indication, it seems like Murphy is back on top of his hilarious game as a charming ex-con in a (thankfully) adult action-comedy. Directed by Brett Ratner, the movie hints that we might even be seeing some hard-core flirtation with Gabourey Sidibe, which is clearly not for children. The film also co-stars Ben Stiller and Matthew Broderick. Actually, it is nice to see all three of these leading men in a film that doesn’t involve talking museum exhibits or CGI mice or ogres voiced by Mike Myers. Though, okay, if the Klumps stop by and make a brief cameo, we can’t exactly going to complain or anything.
They all came in droves to watch the The Hangover Part II! And by “they” we mean every type of celebrity. The supermodels showed up—Selita Ebanks and Alessandra Ambrosio. The fashion designer showed up—Calvin Klein. Even figure skater Johnny Weir turned up! The screening was held at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in New York City, with an after party at The Top of The Standard.
The cast—Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianaki —held court with director, Todd Phillips. They were probably quite pleased with the mixed bag crowd who showed up, including the likes of Zach Braff, James van der Beek, Ciara, Ivanka Trump and Russell Simmons. For the full 411 on who was there, check out our gallery below.
There’s no denying the actresses featured in our Golden Globes worst dressed list are beautiful. Some would argue that they could wear a potato sack and look better than most the U.S. population. Sadly for these five lovely ladies, we’re in the business of both praising and criticizing celebrity fashion.
Tonight Halle Berry wore a bizarre black gown, Helena Bonham Carter went stylistically bananas, and Heidi Klum managed to miraculously look less-than-perfect. Gabourey Sidibe chose an unfortunate printed frock and one of our favorite fashionistas Michelle Williams fell from grace. Take a closer look at our top five worst dressed at the 2011 Golden Globes. Seriously, everyone was at the premiere for The Social Network in New York last night. Friends. Friends of friends. People outside The Social Network‘s social network. If we were Facebook friends with Justin Timberlake, we’re sure his status would have read Justin Timberlake is…wondering who all these people are?
Anyone who is anyone was at the Cinema Society’s screening of the film (the film which has successfully ruined Radiohead‘s “Creep” for us, thankyouverymuch), stars like JT and Jesse Eisenberg, the film’s writer Aaron Sorkin and plenty of total randoms like Adrien Brody, Gabourey Sidibe and Lance Bass. It really is like using a Friend Finder to discover how all these random people are connected even though you never knew they knew each other. For a look at who attended, check out our gallery below. But don’t you dare try to un-tag yourself, Timberlake.
Despite what you might think, there were actually men at the Sex And The City 2 premiere in NYC last night—and not just men from the cast or men married to castmembers (hello, Matthew Broderick). For instance, Valentino was there. He’s a dude! Also, Johnny Weir—yes, a male athlete who enjoys Sex And The City! A jock! Howard Stern went along with wife Beth Ostrosky and his daughter (bet he had a great time, totally wasn’t just there to get his ladies on the guest list or anything), and he may well have talked about the film later with other good husbands like Jerry Seinfeld, Donald Trump and George Stephanopoulos, who certainly weren’t gritting their teeth as Sarah Jessica Parker and her pals enjoyed the luxuries of Abu Dhabi.
Despite the obvious cross-gender appeal, women definitely dominated the event, with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Michelle Trachtenberg, Whitney Port, Gabourey Sidibe, Ashanti, Jessica Szohr and many more joining the cast on the red carpet. See what everyone wore in the gallery below.
If you’re a celebrity who didn’t receive an invitation to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner or one of the numerous parties before and after the event—you may not really be a celebrity. Everyone from Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johansson to Justin Bieber and the JoBros made an appearance, with television making a particularly strong showing (Jessica Simpson, Kim Kardashian, the Glee guy, the Medium lady, Jimmy Fallon and Jay Leno, even McNulty!).
It’s amazing DC still had room for the dignitaries and diplomats with all these celebs pouring into the city’s social halls. See what strange bedfellows Obama brought together in the mega-gallery below.
Jamie Foxx, you’ve released the fury! A feud between the Oscar winner and Howard Stern, initially over Stern’s mockery of Gabourey Sidibe, has blown so out of control it’s taking time away from disaster coverage on Fox News—not that the channel meant to let it. In the above clip, anchor Shepard Smith introduces an energy company spokesperson to talk about Monday’s coal mine explosion in West Virginia, only to be told “we’ve learned Jamie Foxx is a c— and Howard Stern rules.” Unsurprisingly, Smith was not impressed by the latest prank call from Stern accomplice Captain Janks. “It’s always distressing when there are six people killed at a mine disaster and we’re waiting for 21 others to find out whether they are alive or dead and something like that sneaks by our screeners. Disgusting.” As opposed to stopping all news coverage to hover like vultures whenever someone dies in a grotesque way.
This blast of poor taste follows a stream of gay-baiting from Stern towards his fellow Sirius employee. “He seems to be in some bizarre thing where he wants to start in with me so that he can get some attention for his channel on the Foxxhole, which is an interesting name too. The hole. I wonder which hole they’re referring to?” “I’m not gay,” responded Foxx. “A lot of people say that I’m gay and that doesn’t bother me, because I could eat a pizza in a male shower and not feel anything because I’m secure with myself. And I’m not gonna take that, Coward Stern. I’m not gonna take that from a person who has chronic gonorrhea.” This is all well and good, guys, but keep it off the cable news deathwatch, OK?
You knew this conversation was coming, right? Apparently Vogue skeleditor Anna Wintour has deemed actress Gabby Sidibe too large for her precious magazine. Never mind that Gabby was nominated for an Oscar for her first ever acting role, she’s super-plus size, and that just won’t do for fashionistas who like their lattes, stilettos and humans twig-skinny. The actress is no stranger to cover controversy; earlier this year Gabby was excluded from a cover of Vanity Fair that featured numerous young starlets, and took the snub in stride.
According to Popeater, one Vogue insider scoffed and the suggestion. “She’s a joke in the fashion community. What she wore on the red carpet at the Academy Awards wasn’t a dress, it was a tent,” said the source. Added another, “Vogue is a venue where designers debut their best new pieces. All are of which are one of a kind and sample size. It would be impossible to get a regular-sized girl in those clothes, let alone Gabby.”
Anna Wintour’s Conde Nast crew is notorious for pressuring its peeps to stay slim. Anna led an intervention that confronted Editor at Large Andre Leon Talley about his weight (he went on to lose some of the poundage), and the magazine very infamously put Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavey on a diet that was documented in the pages of their magazine. Anna even suggested to Oprah Winfrey that she lose 20 pounds before appearing on the cover of Vogue, and Oprah – the Queen of the World! – obliged. If she has that much control over the most powerful woman in the world, than who can stop her?
A media war has ensued between Howard Stern and lovers of Oscar-nominated Precious star Gabourey Sidibe. Last week Stern made nasty jibes about Sidibe’s weight and said that she’ll never work again. Now Sidibe’s mom is speaking out. (Just like my mom always says, you can mess with the mama, but never mess with her babies.)
