E!’s Ryan Seacrest kept predicting the Golden Globes red carpet would be a rainbow of color. While we love, love, loved the pops of vibrant color we did see, we were completely surprised by the sea of black, dark lipstick and Gothic details. From Kaley Cuoco‘s purple lip to Giuliana Rancic‘s Victorian gown, celebs took it dark on the red carpet. Seriously, both Julianna Margulies and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley are basically high-fashion dominatrices. Dominatri? What we’re trying to say is, middle school us would be all about these Goth looks.
In the latest issue of Life & Style, Bill and Giuliana Rancic aren’t exactly saying anything earth-shattering about their first couple weeks of being brand new parents to baby Edward Duke — “I had always heard that when you have a baby it completes your life — and it’s true,” she said; and he added, “Every day he’s changing — it’s just remarkable to see.” But in the few quotes we’ve seen from the magazine debut of their son, you can also tell that their happiness is heightened by how long and desperately they’ve worked and waited for this moment. Fertility treatments, breast cancer, getting gestational carrier, reality TV — it’s taken a whole lot to get them to this point, so it’s sort of like they have a right to appreciate this more than your typical celebrity parents. No offense to typical celebrity parents.
“I couldn’t believe that all those years of struggling and the tears actually paid off,” Giuliana told the mag. “Every shot, every doctor’s visit — in the end, when you’re holding your baby in your arms, you forget it all, and it’s worth it.”
Apparently, Giuliana even enjoys changing diapers. “I’d never changed more than a diaper or two in my life,” she said. “Now it’s like the littlest things that make me happy — happier than I’ve ever been.”
“The ‘Duke’ has landed! Edward Duke Rancic was welcomed into the world last night at 7lbs 4oz. G & I feel blessed beyond words…We did it!” Bill Rancictweeted last night. And as anyone who’s followed his and wife Giuliana’s journey toward parenthood knows, he had a right to sound so triumphant. Their son was born at 10:12 p.m. in Denver on Wednesday via gestational carrier, E! Online reported. Both parents were in the delivery room: Bill got to cut the umbilical cord and Giuliana was the first to hold baby Edward.
“Bill and I are blessed beyond words to welcome Edward into our lives,” Giuliana told her employer E!. “Thank you so much to everyone who supported us along the way. We are so in love with the little guy already!” Read more…
Two celebrities. Two moms-to-be. And two major baby showers. The first was Jessica Simpson‘s baby bash and it was mega. The party went down on March 18 and celebrity planner, Mindy Weiss was responsible for the spectacular “Charlotte’s Web” theme. Jess herself wrote the captions for the photos on her website revealing snippets like, “Creating a family is the best thing I’ve done in my life,” and “I really hope I can be half as good of a mom as my mom has been to me.” She also added, “I can’t wait till Bronx meets his new cousin.” Bronx was at the shower too, along with mom Ashlee Simpson, and even Jessica Alba was there were baby Haven. You can see a very genteel video of the shower above. We’ve kind of fallen in love with it.
Next up, we have Giuliana Rancic, who had a surprise baby shower thrown for her by her E! pals yesterday. The party had green and yellow treats by Southern Girl Desserts and decor by Party Paper Wrap and looks lovely, as you’ll see in the photograph after the jump. Read more…
We can’t help but feel like the ups and downs of Giuliana and Bill Rancic’s lives are actually the plot of a movie. She was a young Italian immigrant who learned English by watching TV and then grew up to become a TV news correspondent. He was a young entrepreneur who got his big break as the first winner of The Apprentice, and of course, they met when she interviewed him. (This fact is pretty funny when you consider how hard she still keeps flirting with George Clooney during interviews.) They tried to continue this televised fairy tale by publicly chronicling their attempts to have a baby, eventually through in vitro fertilization, and then kept the world in the loop when she had a miscarriage in 2010. They were looking into several other options this fall, which is what led to Giuliana discovering she had breast cancer. That was just last fall, but Giuliana was quickly back at work following her double mastectomy.
So, this nicely crafted story naturally continues with a high point: The couple announced today that they’re expecting their first child via a gestational carrier (a woman implanted with Giuliana’s fertilized egg). “The stars were aligned,” Bill told E! of how they chose the carrier. “It’s been tough to keep it a secret. We wanted to share it with the world, we wanted to share it with the viewers who watch the Giuliana & Bill show, who’ve been with us on our journey, but we’re finally comfortable now. The doctor gave us the green light to go ahead and tell the world and that’s what we’re going to do.
“It’s the year of the Rancics!” Bill continued. We’ll say!
The big stars are just beginning to arrive at the 84th Annual Academy Awards, and we’re chomping at the bit to see who will shine and who will totally flop on the red carpet tonight. Just to get things warmed up, let’s take a look at the ladies who either couldn’t wait to get there, or whose publicists really wanted to assure them lengthy interviews (while all the reporters are just biding their time until Brad and Angie and George and Stacey show up). It’s the first Oscars for some, like Milla Jovovich, though you wouldn’t tell by the way she’s killing it with a dazzling sequined Elie Saab. Sequins seem to be the early trend — they’re also a big feature on Rose Byrne’s Vivienne Westwood and Ellie Kemper’s Armani Prive. Berenice Bejo is also wearing Elie Saab, but she chose beading over sequins. Berenice’s hair is our fave of the night so far — we’re kind of envying her Tyra-esque high forehead. Missi Pyle is an early winner, if only because she manages to make the phrase “cruelty-free silkworms” seem like the next big thing in fashion. Check out the gallery for our early pics below, and then watch along on MTV News’ live stream for more!
The Golden Globes red carpet looks from this evening’s ceremony seemed to fall into two distinct categories: delightfully lovely, and highly, highly questionable. Is Jessica Biel actually wearing an old ill-fitting wedding dress? Was there no other, better way to get the message across to Justin? Was Zooey Deschanel‘s gown literally made out of Astroturf? How did Tilda Swinton get so insane-pantsuit fabulous? Check out the Golden Globes 20 Most Questionable Looks and let us know which look had you scratching your head the most.
Neutrals and blush: If done right, you’re instantly transformed into a more sophisticated and elegant version of yourself. Done wrong, you’re either a human-size Band-Aid or a couture Golden Girl. And not the hot one. Either way, Piper Perabo took pleasure in demonstrating how unbeige beige can be on the Golden Globes red carpet tonight, as did Charlize Theron, Heidi Klum, Katherine McPhee, Amanda Peet, Taissa Farmiga, E!’s Guiliana Rancic, and Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland and Julie Bowden. The neutrals and blushes are still coming fast and furious, but which is your favorite flesh-toned frock so far?
E! News host Giuliana Rancic and husband Bill Rancic returned to the Today show this morning to deliver the difficult news that Giuliana is going to have a double mastectomy. Back in October 36-year-old announced on Today that she was diagnosed with cancer and at the time hoped to battle the disease with lumpectomies and radiation treatment. But as Bill explained, surgery had failed to remove the cancer from one of Giuliana’s breasts, and after consulting many experts, the couple decided that removing both breasts would give her the best chance of living a longer, healthier life.
“With the double mastectomy I have less than 1 percent chance of getting [the cancer] back,” she told host Ann Curry. “With the lumpectomy, radiation and medication, I could have seen 20 to 30 to 40 percent chance in my lifetime, and for me it just wasn’t worth it.” (Watch the interview after the jump.) When the Today show teased that E!’s Giuliana Rancic had a big announcement this morning, it’s safe to say 99 percent of the viewers assumed she’d say her well-documented IVF treatments finally took and she was expecting her long-awaited baby.
Sadly, Rancic did not have happy news to share. She explained that before starting her third round of IVF, her doctor insisted on a mammogram. Rancic initially felt it was unnecessary but went in for the exam anyway. Unexpectedly, the test revealed that Rancic was in the early stages of breast cancer. “It was incredible instant sobbing, and it was like the world just crashed down around me,” she said of her initial reaction. “I couldn’t believe it, 36 years old, no family history.”
The red-carpet host and reality star will have surgery this week and begin six weeks of radiation, and she is expected to make a full recovery. As for the baby, she and husband Bill hope to continue their quest once Giuliana is healthy again.
Our best wishes to Giuliana for a quick recovery. [Source: The Clicker]
