Kate Upton, Ian Somerhalder And More Of Hot Hollywood Show Up For GQ’s Super Bowl Bash

Celebrities at GQ's Super Bowl party

A lot of celebrities had double duty on Saturday night as there were a number of Super Bowl parties happening in New Orleans, most notably the GQ Super Bowl Party with Lil Wayne performing and the DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl, where Justin Timberlake brought Jay-Z onstage. The celebs at the earlier party were pretty casual, but they cleaned up quite nicely for the evening to-do. Except Josh Hutcherson and Chace Crawford, who showed up in denim and a baseball cap and a lot of facial scruff, respectively. They should have taken style cues from Ryan Kwanten and Matt Bomer who both nailed it in sharp suits.

Of course, our eyes were trained on one very gorgeous Ian Somerhalder who turned out in a simple black shirt and jeans. Simple … but perfect, as always. The two ladies in attendance also did quite nicely. Kate Upton slicked on some red lipstick, twisted her hair up in a messy updo and slid into some skinny black pants, a leather bomber jacket and a pair of dark cherry-pointed pumps. Can’t really go wrong with that, right? Hayden Panettiere also took on a three-piece combination but topped hers with a white blazer and beautifully ironed shiny hair. The piece de resistance was her neon orange pumps. It takes a lot to upstage Kate, but we think Hayden managed it. Have a look at our gallery below to see full-length pictures of everyone in attendance.

Ian Somerhalder, Chris Colfer, Jensen Ackles And Co. Heat Up The People’s Choice Awards

Best-Dressed Men At People's Choice Awards

Hello, gentlemen! We could not with a clear conscience ignore the proliferation of extremely handsome men at the People’s Choice Awards because they really brought their A-Game. So many sharply-cut suits! Eddie Redmayne and Giancarlo Esposito already made it to our best-dressed list, but we’re talking about you, Ian Somerhalder, all sexy in your classic black tie combination. J.D Pardo did the same in the best fitted blazer and suit we’re see in a long time. Jensen Ackles actually pulled off a deep maroon suit with a black shirt — but it’s impossible to make that man look anything other than gorgeous. Chris Colfer ditched a jacket completely and opted for skinny trousers and a skinnier tie and worked the whole thing like a pro. We’re also giving out props to Jesse Williams who added a little something’ extra to his suit by adding a pair of purple suede shoes. The impossibly good looking Matt Bomer added a little texture to his deep navy suit with a grey pocket square and a Madras-checked shirt. We’re counting The Wanted as one unit — one very hip, way cool unit. Their stylists need a raise. But we’d like to hand the best-dressed trophy to our number one guy, Robert Downey Jr. That grey suit, that pizazz and those metallic sneakers? Take a bow, sir.

A Totally Objective Guide To The Best Shipped Relationships Of 2012

After watching Spider-Man: The Animated Series in 1997, we decided Venom and Mary Jane Watson were actually a better couple than Mary Jane and Spider-Man, and we haven’t looked back since. In case you’re new to the Internet, pretty much every TV show, movie or otherwise fictional couple has a huge fan base swooning over their relationship. It might be a well-established couple or the characters might have met once to sign for a UPS package, it doesn’t matter. Someone is obsessed with them declaring their eternal love. This is a phenomenon known as shipping, and it is 75% of the reason anyone even knows about Twilight.

Maybe we just spent too much time on Tumblr over the last twelve months (we really, really did!), but 2012 seemed like a year where shipping was front and center. From New Girl to Sherlock, everywhere we looked shippers were building onto the fictional universes they loved, mostly with smooching. So we decided to pay homage to the most passionately shipped relationships of this year as part of our Best of 2012. Don’t see your favorite couple? We probably just didn’t know about them yet, so inform us in the comments! 2013 is almost upon us and we want to feel that Venom/Mary Jane feeling again!

Happy Birthday, Ian Somerhalder! 20 Photos Of Smolderholder Being A Beautiful Person

Ian Somerhalder turns 34 today

We could write this post all about how much we’d like to go for a swim in Ian Somerhalder’s beautiful eyes, or how much Damon makes us squeal and laugh and cry every week on The Vampire Diaries. But the funny thing about Mr. Smolderholder is that’s probably not how he wants us to celebrate his 34th birthday today. Instead, he’d really, really like us all to donate to the Ian Somerhalder Foundation — which supports initiatives for the environment and animals — via the Mozilla Firefox Challenge on Crowdrise.com, so that he can get the company to ante up $50,000.

It looks like fans are doing their part so far, but if you need a little motivation, here’s a gallery showing Ian being a beautiful person, inside and, yeah, outside too:

Renesmee, Sookie, Magnus And More: 25 Supernatural Characters Who Dazzled Us In 2012

Anna Paquin, Joseph Morgan, Mackenzie Foy and Godfrey Gao

Around this time last year, we made this list a roundup of our favorite vampires of 2011 — though we named Bella Cullen as our fave, it was Damon Salvatore who ruled your hearts. This year, we took a look around at our favorite movies, TV shows and books and discovered that, while the bloodsuckers of True Blood, Twilight and The Vampire Diaries were still among our faves, they had some competition from other supes, too. There were the characters wielding magic for good or evil — Snow White and the Huntsman’s Queen Ravenna, Beautiful Creatures‘ Lena, The Mortal Instruments‘ Magnus, TVD’s Bonnie. We had a nice crop of werewolves — Teen Wolf’s Scott and Derek, Nightshade’s Calla, True Blood’s Alcide. And then, of course, there were gods, genetic mutations, time travelers and Shadowhunters. Whether they were on the page, the screen or both, these beautiful, dangerous, ever-seductive heroes and villains made us feel a little bit inadequate for being mere humans. But there’s one power we have that they don’t: the ability to vote on which of these 25 characters was our favorite of the year. Take a look at the gallery and then vote!

The Vampire Diaries: 5 Other Times It’s Shocked Us With The Last Scene

Stefan and Elena broke our hearts in the last scene of the latest Vampire Diaries episode

It’s been about 19 hours, and I’m still kind of reeling from the last scene of last night’s Vampire Diaries. As I saw someone tweet last night, as I was freaking out over the devastatingly quiet breakup of Stefan and Elena, the Gilberts’ porch is kept clean by tears. Even as a firm believer in Delena — which, how could you not be this season? — Paul Wesley’s performance had me tearing up and temporarily switching allegiance. (But so help me, Julie Plec, if you turn Elena back into a boring human, I will hunt you down.) The other thing that struck me about this moment was how well it fit into the show’s time-honored tradition of changing the game, or plucking our hearts out, in the last five minutes of the show, leaving us breathing heavily and pounding our fists on the couch as the title card floats onto the screen.

Here are some of our other favorite last-scene reveals:

“Founder’s Day,” Season 1: Damon kisses Elena ever so tenderly on the cheek, we squeeeeee, and then suddenly realize that it’s not Elena at all but Katherine, who then turns around and stabs John Gilbert.

“Rose,” Season 2: Damon confesses his love to Elena and then compels her to forget his confession. TEARS.

“As I Lay Dying,” Season 2: After all sorts of terrible Klaus-related tragedies, Jeremy returns home from the dead, accompanied by his two deceased ex-girlfriends.

“1912,” Season 3: Meredith reveals that Alaric has been the one murdering council members.

“The Departed,” Season 3: Meredith, deliverer of surprises, reveals that Elena had vampire blood in her when she died, and then Elena wakes up.

This is just a small sampling, of course, culled from my memory. But I’d love to hear from you about your fave last-minute TVD moments. And am I the only one who almost ALWAYS gets interrupted in the middle of the last scene? God bless DVRs.

The Vampire Diaries: 5 Ways Elena Is So Much Cooler As A Vampire

Nina Dobrev plays her much cooler vampire self on the Vampire Diaries

Though I find Stefan’s self-help guru speeches on The Vampire Diaries to be a bit on the cloying side, he kind of has a point about Elena: She needs to enjoy herself more now that she’s one of them. And as she starts to realize that herself (and thankfully, no one uttered the phrase “heightened emotions” once during last night’s episode), we’re having a lot more fun watching her. The victimized little orphan of seasons past is making room for a much cooler girl who is not to be messed with. Here are 5 things that we love so much more about Elena 2.0.

1. She gets to make that scary veiny, black-eyed hiss face (above) a lot these days.

2. She’s got a toy boy of her own now. While she pretends to have resolved her Salvatore love triangle, it’s looking like her lust for ex-boyfriend Matt is a fun little thing on the side, too. They even met at their old makeout spot! Read more…

The Vampire Diaries Is Doing Its Darndest To Make You Team Damon

Ian Somerhalder

There was a while when The Vampire Diaries did its best to keep us just as torn between Salvatore brothers as Elena herself was (and Katherine before her!). We were equally in love with Stefan’s sweet nature (not to mention those perfectly sculpted shoulders), as we were with Damon’s wry humor and piercing eyes. Not so much, anymore. Elena said she chose Stefan once and for all last week — but her rationale was super shaky. She chose him because he would have saved Matt first, whereas Damon would have ignored her wishes and saved her? The path of “good” can only take you so far, hon. By last night’s “Memorial,” we were convinced that Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec and company are going to spend a lot of time building the case for Elena to change her mind. Here’s how:

1. Oh, god, that scene of Elena drinking his blood nearly gave us a heart attack. The chemistry between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder CANNOT be hidden.

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder

2. Damon’s no longer the voice of unchecked impulses but of reason. “Vampires eat people. It’s part of the natural food pyramid,” he says. Stefan’s so intent on protecting Elena from his own “Ripper” fate, he’s blind to the consequences.

The Vampire Diaries Season 4 Premiere: Play Name That Quote With “Growing Pains”

Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder

OK, I may have just watched the season premiere of The Vampire Diaries twice in a row, but I believe this is by no means a sign of an unhealthy obsession. I’m merely dedicated to my job! Also, after crying and yelling at Elena through the TV and trying to send Matt some kind of telepathic hug, hyperventilating during the Caroline-and-Tyler/Klaus scene and pausing the screen to gaze into Damon’s eyes, I realized I’d missed some choice quotes, so I just had to review the fundamentals, you know? Now that I’m an expert at everything that was said during “Growing Pains,” I’m going to challenge you to a little game. Name the characters that said these great quotes…

Candice Accola and Michael Trevino

1. “And now the world has one more quarterback.”

2. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”

3. “I love you, and it’s because I love you that I can’t be selfish with you.”

4. “I am that selfish, but you already knew that.”

5. “I’ll be with you forever … if I want.”

6. “Easy, love. Wrong time, wrong place, wrong equipment.”

7. “You can’t possibly hate me more than I hate myself.”

8. “You don’t have to live with that; you get to live with that.”

9. “I’m smiling.”

Ian Somerhalder Meets Gabby Douglas: The Best Thing On The Internet

Gabby Douglas and Ian Somerhalder

I thought my day was made when I saw that photo of Tyler Blackburn, Michael Trevino, Stephen Amell and other TV hotties on Bullett earlier today. But I wasn’t the only one to notice that the photo was suspiciously devoid of a pair of Salvatore brothers. Sometimes, all you have to do is ask the Internet, and you shall receive your heart’s desire. Actually, MORE than your heart’s desire. You receive one Salvatore brother, in the form of Ian Somerhalder, and one Fierce Five member, Gabrielle Douglas. (If this pic were photobombed by Paul Wesley and McKayla Douglas, I would spontaneously combust, so this will do just fine, thank you.)

“Eating @gabrielledoug ‘s Gold medal!yummmmmmm…,” Somerhalder wrote with the pic. Is Gabby making an appearance in Mystic Falls as Bonnie’s long-lost cousin? Pretty please?

Nina Dobrev, who used to compete in rhythmic gymnastics, was super psyched about Gabby’s visit to the Vampire Diaries set. “First thought at 530am when I woke up this morning: ‘What to wear when meeting an Olympian Gold Medalist?’” she tweeted.

BTW, Ian fans, the actor is participating in a live Twitter chat tonight at 9 p.m. with @TomsofMaine for something called #50SFG. And yeah, we got excited thinking that was a 50 Shades of Grey reference, but it’s actually for a nonprofit contest Ian’s helping to judge, called 50 States for Good. OK, we can get behind that too.
