Jena Malone Is Your Johanna Mason, And Everything Else We Know About Catching Fire So Far

Jena Malon Cast As Johanna Mason
Jena Malone has been officially cast as Catching Fire‘s Johanna Mason! Could you possibly be more surprised? We’re being sarcastic, of course; we feel like we’ve heard more about this particular casting rumor than about any detail of The Hunger Games so far. With all this hype, Jena had better bring her arm-stabbing game correct! We’re just being sarcastic again; we’re positive she will. While it was a long time coming, we’re at least glad to know who will be portraying one of the movie’s more pivotal characters. What other details do we know about Catching Fire thus far? Allow us to break it down for you.

The Rumors Were True: Jena Malone Is Offered The Part Of Johanna Mason In Catching Fire

Jena Malone, In Talks For Johanna Mason In "Catching Fire"

The rumor mill was spot on with this one. News broke last month that Jena Malone was in the running for the role of in Catching Fire, the second book in The Hunger Games trilogy. Johanna is a female tribute from District  7 and is often described as sarcastic and mean-spirited. That’s the vanilla shade of her character, because for all her bitchiness, Johanna is an odd character to pin down. Remember when she stabs Katniss in the arm? Turned out it was to disable a tracking device. And as we all know, Johanna’s character in Mockingjay becomes even more sympathetic. It’s a tough role to play! We do feel like Jena has the look of Johanna, and could do the character justice. Which is good news because The Hollywood Reporter has published news saying that the actress has now been offered the part and apparently, is in early negotiations for the role. The role will obviously be reprised for Mockingjay as well. This would be quite a coup for her, even though she’s been around for a while now. That’s THG for you. A franchise like this is like solid gold for an actor. While we think Jena’s a great choice, we want to know your thoughts. Do you think she’ll be able to pull it off?

JLaw The Hero, Johanna Mason Casting Rumors: Whatever Helps You Make It Until Catching Fire

Jennifer Lawrence Jena Malone

Guys, Catching Fire isn’t coming out for a long time. Not a long time in the grand scheme of the planet, of course, though by the time Novebmer 22, 2013 rolls around, it’s going to feel like we’ve been waiting an eon. Luckily we have a few tiny sips of Hunger Games news for your parched brains in the meantime. For example, Katniss’s…oh boy, Jennifer Lawrence‘s heroics after finding a young woman passed out on her lawn yesterday. “Jennifer ran outside her apartment when she heard a girl scream and immediately called 911. When the EMT arrived, she stayed to make sure everything was OK. She was really scared for the girl,” X17 reported. According to the Santa Monica Police Department, “alcohol may have played a role in the incident.” Aw, you know Jen would step up and help like that! It’s as if our incredibly tame fan fiction is coming true!

As for the complicated fictional heros we’re in love with, following the allegedly Philip Seymour Hoffman/Plutarch Heavensbee news, Jena Malone has recently cropped up as a possible casting pick for Johanna Mason. Jena definitely wasn’t our first thought (Sucker Punch left a real gross taste in our mouths), but color us intrigued. Does the Hatfields & McCoys actress seem like she has a “wicked ability to murder”? Can you envision her ratting Katniss right off the bat by meeting her for the first time stark naked…save for a pair of green slippers? Does mulling over a possible Johanna Mason actress seem like it’ll take up a little time during the eternal wait until next fall? We’re going to help you make it, you guys. We promise we will.

Sucker Punch Stars Step Up Their Game At UK Premiere

Someone must have staged an intervention. While we’re not totally knocked out by the outfits on display at the UK premiere of Sucker Punch last night in London, the actresses certainly did a better job at coordinating than they did at the US Sucker Punch premiere. Sure, Jena Malone looks like she pulled her signed, hole-ridden outfit out of a fire, but that’s better than the late ’90s nightmare Jena unearthed last week in LA. Plus flapper Emily Browning is more flattering than baby doll Emily Browning, and this time Vanessa Hudgens wore a dress that wouldn’t be more appropriate for Betty White. Who knows, maybe the film won’t get trounced by a Wimpy Kid sequel the way it was in America last weekend.

The Sexy Ladies Of Sucker Punch: Who’s Your Favorite?

Sucker Punch isn’t turning the critics on, but between 300 director Zack Snyder‘s fanboy fanbase and the impressive amount of ultra-hotties battling Nazi robots and whatnot in the film, we’re sure plenty of people will indulge in the CGI babefest this weekend. As a warm-up for what’s bound to be a bombastic night of bombshells, check out our mega-gallery of sexy stills and red carpet shots of Sucker Punch stars like Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, Jamie Chung and Abbie Cornish below.

Sucker Punch Premiere: Worst Dressed Red Carpet of 2011 So Far?

Considering the amount of female talent in the new movie Sucker Punch, it’s no surprise ladies would dominate the premiere’s red carpet last night in LA. Too bad they didn’t do much with their moment. From Carla Gugino‘s old-school flowerprint to Vanessa Hudgens combining backless with Blanche Devereaux, there didn’t appear to be a theme—though Emily Browning‘s dark-lipped baby doll look and Jena Malone‘s black halter-top and long pink skirt sure had a ’90s tinge to them (did Jena think she was going to prom in a Kevin Williamson movie?). Still, there were plenty of rising gals to photograph, with Jon Hamm and, well, Joe Jonas, even there to represent for the beefcake. See photos of these stars and more in the premiere gallery below.

Alex Pettyfer Leaves Beastly Premiere Early To Check On House Fire

Alex Pettyfer‘s big year is looking bittersweet. Hype for his first potential teen action franchise this month, I Am Number Four, was hindered by scary rumors about Pettyfer and co-star/girlfriend Dianna Agron‘s split, and buzz about Pettyfer being a total diva. Last night’s premiere for the Twi-wannabe Beastly should have been a chance to have some fun, only he had to leave early because his garage was on fire. You read that right.

The fire at Pettyfer’s home was reported yesterday evening, though Pettyfer told people at the event that his lateness was caused by traffic. “There was an electrical fire in the garage while no one was home,” Agron’s rep told ET—an ironic task if the rumors that the Glee star is “terrified” of Pettyfer are true. Is this guy suffering from bad luck, bad karma or both?

Sirens Unleashed At The Tron: Legacy Premiere

Sirens, Will Ferrell

Ignore the humanoid! Ignore him! The red carpet outside the Tron: Legacy premiere in LA this weekend was a rather dimly lit affair—blame the trademark neon blue signs—but that didn’t stop those Sirens (who equip the combatants in the film) from getting the attention of guest Will Ferrell. If we can be honest, Tron never really did much for as kids. Frankly, considering the modest success of the original (it was the 22nd biggest film of 1982, behind Friday The 13th III), we were surprised Disney bothered to make a high-profile sequel so many years later. Do that many people even know the original film? We’ll find out how many moviegoers are as excited as Will next week, but for now see Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde, Jena Malone and the robots from Daft Punk mingle with other stars (and the Sirens!) in the gallery below.

GQ Men Of The Year Are Way More Fashion-Forward Than We Can Comprehend

gq_main

If this were any other event, we would just assume that Johnny Knoxville, Kid Rock and Michael Kenneth Williams made poor fashion choices and then proceed to mock them mercilessly. But they were invited to the GQ Men of the Year Gala last night at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. And we were not. So we have to assume that they are just operating on a level that we mere fashion mortals cannot comprehend.

You may think these suits are sort of hideous, but in five years you’ll have one in every color! Way to stay ahead of the curve, guys. Thankfully some other ladies and gents were a little less fashion forward. Twi-Bros Kellan Lutz and Taylor Lautner donned dapper suits, Glee peeps Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale and Cory Monteith ditched their school attire, and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino even kept his shirt on. Check out the hits and misses in the gallery below!
