What did President Obama say to Jaden Smith about the possibility of alien life? Why is Jennifer Lawrence mad at Bradley Cooper? And why is the Force suddenly with Star Wars fans? All this in today’s First Dibs.
How much is Jessica Biel shelling out for all her new fancy clothes? What is Tilda Swinton doing sleeping in public? Plus steamy set pics of Jennifer Lawrence as a blonde 70s bombshell in today’s First Dibs.

Okay, so obviously, I know who Jessica Chastain is.
She’s now a two-time Academy Award nominated actress. She’s appeared in countless popular and critically acclaimed films in the past few years (including Zero Dark Thirty, Mama, The Help, Tree of Life, and Take Shelter). And for one dark day, I was under the misconception that she was romantically involved with Tom Hiddleston.
That said, I still have no clue who Jessica Chastain is.
JESSICA CHASTAIN, WHO ARE YOU??
Awards season fashion-judging is almost more fun than watching the awards themselves (definitely the case with Sunday’s flat, terribly un-PC Oscars ceremony). For your armchair fashion policing pleasure, we created a Style Points race to track how the fashions of the following high wattage stars stacked up during Awards Season: Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Chastain and Kerry Washington. Like most of us, I’ve often fantasized about attending the grand glittering spectacle known as the Academy Awards. But tragically I’ve been held back by my total lack of acting skills, directing skills, or any film-related talent whatsoever. Yet one day out of the clear blue sky I was given the once in a lifetime opportunity to gain access Hollywood’s ground zero. I was lucky, but getting the green-light was just the beginning. There were many many unexpected steps on the journey to the golden bald man. So if you ever find yourself married to Sandra Bullock and have to be her date to the Oscars, these are some logistics you will have to consider when turning your Oscar fantasy into a reality.
With such heavy pre-show coverage before the Academy Awards, media outlets typically bank on a few disastrous gowns and at least one or two “OMG” moments–à la The Dictator’s baby powder bomb–to keep things interesting while sweating it out on live television. But sometimes, allowing the stars to act naturally (what a concept!), along with a few well-timed introductions, is all the magic one red carpet telecast needs. That and Jennifer Lawrence‘s vivacious personality and knack for making awesome faces.
The Oscars are too fancy shmancy for anyone to walk on stage with their “Thank You’s” written out on a tiny piece of scrap paper or, even worse, read from the winner’s iPhone. Instead, Oscar attendees tend to have carefully thought out shout outs that get straight to the point. That said, every so often, moments of real, actual emotion break through, which make stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Adele and Ben Affleck shine more than their exquisitely prepared peers. Read more…
Watching events on television will never be as good as seeing it live and in person. Sure, not having to wear pants is definitely a bonus. But over-produced glam-extravaganzas miss the small sights, sounds and smells (lots of smells) that give life its true favor. That’s probably why award shows can occasionally be (eeek) a little bland. Luckily, we were there live on the front lines of the 2013 Oscars red carpet to pick up all the great moments that might have slipped away from the camera’s lens. From Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence‘s cute bonding moment, to Nicole Kidman’s (awesome) perfume, head under the jump to check out 10 of our very favorite!
What great timing on this. Not only did Jennifer Lawrence look awesome at the Oscars, and won the coveted Best Actress statue, but she’s also getting a whole lot of love — and by that we mean extra publicity — thanks to her new Dior gig. A couple of months ago, we wrote about Jennifer being named as the new face of the iconic Miss Dior bag. Which is why she’s been wearing so much Dior this season. Raf Simons, the creative director of Women’s Fashion of the brand, gushed over her, saying, “Like everyone else, I first discovered Jennifer Lawrence in the roles she played in action movies. I was, of course, struck by her incredible onscreen presence in these blockbuster films, but also impressed by her powerful interpretations of subtler, more rounded characters. Her youth and her classic beauty, but also her force of character and the complexity she’s capable of embodying at such a young age are, for me, both unique and very moving.” WWD has now revealed some of the pictures from the campaign, which will be officially break out later this month. As you can see in the photographs above, J.Law is killing it. We can’t wait to see more!

So, Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway had another thing common at the Oscars other than looking beautiful and winning Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. No, Jennifer did not spawn an entire twitter account about nipples, like Anne did. They both wore rather unusual accessories with their gowns — back necklaces. That is, necklaces that drop down over the back, rather than the front. Jennifer — seen on the left — chose a fine, minimal Chopard necklace that flowed down over the back of her Dior Haute Couture ball gown. Anne’s Prada column was buffed up by a chunky floral necklace from Tiffany & Co. that graced her shoulders and was centered between her shoulder blades. Is this a thing now? Do you agree with this trend or should it be thrown into the fashion rejects bin?
