We’re still getting shivers every time we think about what could make someone dismember a cat with his bare hands, as Johnny Lewis is said to have done before allegedly murdering his landlady and then jumping or falling to his death on Wednesday. But what’s even more confusing is reconciling that with the quotes coming from many fellow actors who remember the 28-year-old as an entirely different person.

“He was the nicest guy,” Nikki Reed told E! Online of Lewis, who appeared with her on The O.C. back in 2006. “I never thought anything but great things about him. I have nothing to say except that he was a really nice guy. It’s just crazy.”

Raising Hope star Shannon Woodward — who we think knew Lewis through his ex-girlfriend Katy Perry —tweeted yesterday, “Johnny Lewis, I love you deeply and madly and always. My heart is broken in a million little pieces. I will miss you every day.” She also said, “He was very, very ill. His actions were a despicable result of that. It was not who he was.”

And meanwhile a source told Us Weekly that Perry knew he had problems back when they dated from 2005-2006.

The more details are released about the death of Sons of Anarchy actor Johnny Lewis and the woman assumed to be his landlady, 81-year-old Katherine Davis, the more shivers we’re getting all day. To recap, Lewis was found dead on the driveway of a house in Los Feliz on Wednesday morning after falling from the roof, and Davis was found killed by blunt force trauma inside her home. A neighbor and a handyman were reportedly badly beaten by Lewis with a blunt object after they arrived at the scene, responding to calls for help from the woman. Here are all the new and disturbing things we’ve learned since then:

• Davis was found on the second floor of her ransacked three level house in a “gruesome scene,” and her cat was found dead nearby, LAPD Commander Andrew Smith said in a press conference.

• Lewis had been released from prison just six days ago, after serving time for battery and burglary incidents in February, per TMZ. Before that he was arrested in January for felony assault with a deadly weapon and ordered to complete “treatment of mental health and/or drugs and alcohol.”

This is probably the most bizarre stories you’ll hear today (we hope), 28-year-old actor Johnny Lewis died on Wednesday morning, after possibly murdering his landlady and falling or jumping to his death from the stairs or a roof. The details are sketchy, but KTLA News 5 reports that 81-year-old Katherine Chabot Davis, who may have been renting a room to Lewis, was found dead from blunt force trauma inside her home in Los Feliz, California. A neighbor and a handyman who had responded to her screams were injured in an altercation with the actor.

“The best we’re piecing together now is that it appears that some type of altercation occurred inside of the house resulting in the death of the woman, then this individual ran outside, had an altercation with a couple of neighbors, ran back into the house and by the time we got here, he had fallen or had somehow died on the driveway,” LAPD Commander Andrew Smith told KABC TV.

Lewis most recently played Kip “Half-Sack” Epps on Sons of Anarchy. He also had roles on The O.C., playing Marissa’s friend Dennis “Chili” Childress from 2005-2006, and in 2010′s The Runaways. Back in 2006, he also dated a pre-”I Kissed a Girl” Katy Perry (that’s when the photo above was taken).
