Vampire Diaries Spinoff The Originals: 5 Reasons We Can’t Wait For October

There were no longer any Twi-hards in the lines at Comic-Con this year, but vampires were still all over the place. I was thrilled to chat with the cast of Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals, Joseph Morgan (Klaus), Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley), Claire Holt (Rebekah), Daniel Gillies (Elijah), newcomer Charles Michael Davis (Marcel) and creator Julie Plec, whose dynamic was so sweet, I’m going to have a hard time buying their animosity again on the show. Will The Vampire Diaries Spinoff Suck Some Life From The Original(s)?

Daniel Gillies will be in the new Vampire Diaries spinoff

The more we hear about it, the more we are alternately rejoicing and fearing the possible upcoming Vampire Diaries spinoff. Rejoice: Today Deadline reports that Daniel Gillies will bring his admirably moral vampire Elijah to the show, joining TV bro Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and hot werewolf Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). Also rejoice: Julie Plec will be the executive producer of this show, which would be called The Originals, should the network pick it up from the backdoor pilot, airing April 25. And hoorah #3: It would take place in New Orleans, a place ripe with so many possibilities for supernatural fun.

According to Plec, the story revolves around Klaus, who hears that some people are plotting against him in New Orleans, so he heads there to set things straight. “And in unfolding that mystery, it takes him back to a town that several hundred years ago, he was actually one of the original settlers of and helped build,” she explained to Entertainment Weekly. “He reacquaints himself with a vampire that he actually turned back in the day, Marcel, who has created a whole set of rules and a whole society for the supernatural community that he’s in charge of — sort of tipping his hat to Klaus and saying, ‘You taught me everything I know.’ So Klaus’ protegé is now the big king of the supernatural community in New Orleans and Klaus is stepping back into that. ”

5 WTF Questions From The Vampire Diaries Season Finale

Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley in The Vampire Diaries season 3 finale

Like every finale (and yeah, every other EPISODE) the show has given us before, this was a game changer for Elena, the Salvatores, their friends and their enemies. So, if you haven’t seen the episode yet, you definitely should stop reading now.

Though it was pure torment, I absolutely loved how everytime I started sobbing about a character dying, the next scene showed them to be alive and well. Perhaps because of all those twists, I was left feeling just a bit unsure about what went down after all. Here are my biggest questions — and a few answers.
