Fans of the British teen drama, Skins, were definitely saddened when the show went off the air last summer. Over the course of seven series, audiences were introduced to a number of fine actors, such as Nicholas Hoult, who later went on to even bigger stardom. Thankfully, over the past year, cast members from all three generations have started to pop up in new films and TV shows. Those not quite ready to let go of Cassie (Hannah Murray), Cook (Jack O’Connell), or Emily (Kathryn Prescott) can find solace in seeing the actors who portrayed them back in the limelight this fall.
Teenage drama is common fodder for TV serials, but somehow when Skins showed up on Britain’s E4 in 2007, it was as if they’d recreated the genre. Nothing was off limits; sex, drugs, eating disorders, depression, illness, death, more drugs and a weird Cat Stevens sing-along were all explored with raw, painful realness on the show, complete with relatively unknown actors who were actually the age of the characters they played. And they did so in painfully cool, hipster-ish, thrift store outfits! Really, what’s not to love?
The fourth book inThe Mortal Instruments franchise, City of Fallen Angels, dropped yesterday (Do books drop? Is that a thing?), making this the perfect week to begin obsessing over who to cast in the film version of the popular series. Lily Collins is already set as Clary, the books’ redheaded heroine, and Alex Pettyfer is clearly the fan favorite to place Jace, Clary’s – *SPOILER ALERT* – brother/love interest/hot angel dude/not really her brother. Yes, for those of you who are new to the franchise, you read that right – brother AND love interest. It’s even weirder than the Jacob-Renesmee creepfest in Breaking Dawn!
So let’s have it, Mortal Instruments fans. We want to know who you envision in these parts. We’ve put our initial picks in the gallery below, but we’re easily swayed and enjoy spending hours pondering these things. We’ll collect your favorites and roll out some polls in the coming weeks. Until then, let’s start casting!
The FABLife is playing March Celebrity Madness this month, putting 64 of our favorite stars into brackets and having you vote to decide our ultimate FAB icon. First we’ll be pitting four similar celebs against each other in the divisionals, with the winners pairing (and squaring) off in our Sweet 16 until only one is left standing. It’s just like the NCAA, except…ok, it’s nothing like the NCAA.
First off is the Acting Ingenues category: Hailee Steinfeld stole True Grit from Jeff Bridges, fellow Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence is a likely shoo-in for The Hunger Games, Elle Fanning‘s rising profile has Hollywood saying “Dakota who?” and Kaya Scodelario of the UK Skins will play Catherine in the upcoming remake of Wuthering Heights. All these young women have had big breakouts of late, but which actress is your favorite? The polls don’t close until Friday, March 25th, so vote early and vote often!
