Anyone who’s anyone in the movie is attending the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles tonight. The show is not only honoring the best movie moments of the past year, but is also paying tribute to the Comedic Genius Will Ferrell, the Trailblazer Emma Watson, and the MTV Generation Award winner Jamie Foxx. That’s all well and good, but what we REALLY want to know is who showed up on who’s arm to tonight’s ceremony?

We’ll be honest, when we came up with the idea for this awards season Style Points race, we were envisioning a graph with much smoother lines. But now we realize that wouldn’t be as much fun as the crazy ups and downs Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Chastain and Kerry Washington have delivered, in the eyes of our esteemed fashion panel. (Emma Stone has been a no-show lately; we may just drop her from the list!) This week, Yahoo! Entertainment New York bureau chief Breanne Heldman, Glamour’s online style editor Nikki Ogunnaike, and our own Ambika Muttoo and Sabrina Rojas Weiss evaluated the contestants’ Oscar nominee luncheon outfits (or, in the case of the non-nominees, outfits worn to other important events last week) and fell in love with Les Miz’s Redmayne all over again.
Olivia Pope, our bad, Kerry Washington took a brief break from saving high powered D.C. clients from their scandals to talk Baldwin. James Baldwin that is. On Scandal she’s always involved in drama — the kind you have when you’re powerful. In real life the 36-year-old’s life is a lot less messy. All the woman who hails from the Bronx wants to do is talk books. And maybe save the world.
For ” target=”_blank”>Vanity Fair‘s 2013 Hollywood issue a crop of Hollywood’s elite sit down with a camera crew to share whatever moves them. The woman whose quiver lip has become famous from Thursday’s debauchery on Scandal, plays dress up in a three and a half mini-short on the importance of reading. Shot in black and white Kerry’s curly tresses are in a poofy up-do. Her love for author James Baldwin seeps through the screen. “I love him. His work is so important,” she says. “I remember stumbling upon him at a time when I was sort of grappling with who was right, Malcolm [X] or Martin [Luther King Jr.]…And then James Baldwin came along in my brain and I thought, ‘Oh exactly. There’s this middle road.’”
We could listen to Kerry intelligently talk about history and literature all day. But we mostly can’t stop gazing at her regal beauty, which is hypnotic. When we decided to track the awards season fashions of Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Anne Hathaway, Kerry Washington, Jessica Chastain, Eddie Redmayne and Emma Stone, we had no idea how much they’d fluctuate from gorgeous to meh to bleh and back again from week to week. As you can see in the graph above, these stars’ Style Points have been fluctuating madly. And since we’re basing this “race” on the opinions of esteemed experts — Glamour online style editor Nikki Ogunnaike, Yahoo! Entertainment’s New York bureau chief Breanne Heldman, MTV Style’s associate editor Maud Deitch — along with our own Ambika Muttoo and Sabrina Rojas Weiss, we don’t think this is just due to our own arbitrary moods. Last night’s SAG Awards saw an abrupt change of position as Amanda and Jennifer got their acts together and showed up in stunning (and matching!) navy gowns. Oddly enough, last week’s front-runner Kerry Washington sank to the bottom with her white Rodarte. Emma Stone was a no-show at this event — now we’re wondering if she’s skipping out on the rest of this awards season altogether, which would be a shame for us fashion voyeurs. But we have the other seven to enjoy below:
Amanda Seyfried
Breanne: +5. “Yes! Finally! This Zac Posen dress does everything I’ve been wanting for Amanda all awards season and then some. Extra love for the necklace.
Nikki: +4. “To say I’m obsessed with this Zac Posen dress would be putting it mildly. The dark blue color against her alabaster skin made for an amazing contrast while the mega train added an appropriate touch of drama.”
Ambika: +5. “I cannot find fault with this gown. I also want to have babies with the color. Amanda likes these structural elements in her gown, and often gets them wrong. But when she gets it right, look out world. This Zac Posen gown is the apex of those rare moments.”
Maud: +5. “I love this. Pairing that epic Zac Posen fishtail with that enormous Lorraine Schwartz pendent? Inspired styling choice. This is one of the first of Amanda Seyfried’s looks that made me totally forget that she was ever in Mamma Mia! She looks like a true movie star.”
Sabrina: +5. “Amanda was hilarious on the red carpet, telling E! she hoped Les Miserables wouldn’t win because she was scared to walk up the stairs in that gown. No matter how good Argo is, I think we were tragically deprived of that sight. Also, I want (a knockoff of) that necklace now.”

This is totally ruining our high over the SAG Awards best-dressed list, but it has to be done. Also, how is it possible that Anne Hathaway swings so wildly between getting it so right, and so wrong — nothing in between. Sadly, she got it so wrong at the awards show last night wearing a twee, frothy, half-sheer Giambattista Valli Couture dress that just didn’t do anything for us apart from making us say, “Why, Anne?” We do love her accessories in the form of her Jimmy Choo ‘Kalpa’ heels and her black Edie Parker clutch. We may be a tad harsh on Jessica Chastain as well — but it’s only because her people never seem to get fits right on her. The red McQueen gown maybe a beautiful, but it looks like it wants to crush her breasts, and to add insult to injury, it looks rumpled. We really don’t like the Harry Winston diamond necklace on her, either. It’s the wrong piece for the dress. Also, twee and in the same color, was Kaley Cuoco whose red lace Ramona Kaveeza dress made her look like a doily, even though her red velvet Giuseppe Zanotti heels gave her cred. Does anyone else think the new haircut with the bangs looks like a wig?
Rose Byrne was the wrong woman for her Valentino Resort 2013 gown because the fabric and the ruffles made her look matronly. And while her hair and makeup were sweet and retro, Claire Danes went in the opposite direction with deep maroon lips that just looked incredibly harsh on her. They put us off, and her black Givenchy didn’t exactly impress either. Neither did Julianne Moore‘s Chanel Couture Fall 2011 gown, which like Jessica’s, had a major fit problem as well. Let’s just say the bodice took its cues from the name of the awards show and made her look like she was sagging. There’s more on the list, so carry on to the gallery to have a look.

Tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards were not as tipsy-casual as the Golden Globes nor as formal as the Oscars almost certainly will be, but they were still chock full of funny, touching quotes from everyone from Amy Poehler to Tina Fey to Dick Van Dyke. And while it technically was not “out loud” and therefore does not count as a quote, did everyone see Bryan Cranston‘s adorable daughter mouth “I love you, Dad” while he was onstage?
