Today the remake of the disturbing, provocative and emotional Flowers in the Attic is airing on Lifetime. The movie (and the book it’s based on) may make us shiver, but it does star a very talented cast: Heather Graham, Ellen Burstyn, Kiernan Shipka and Mason Dye. In honor of this premiere and its weighty plotline (*cough* incest central), we’ve collected 10 instances of family intimacies that have reached blurry territory on TV and in film. From sibling makeouts (ahem, Star Wars) to dads getting hot n’ heavy with their daughter’s best friend (American Beauty) — we’re taking you to a disturbing place, and we have the video clips to prove it. So brace yourself for some uncomfortable squirming. Shizz is about to get really weird. Read more…
We’ve already obsessed about Kiernan Shipka‘s wardrobe once before. No, you don’t have to remind us that obsessing over a 13-year-old’s sartorial choices is weird, because we already know it is. But can you blame us? Can you blame yourself, because we know you’ve sighed over her Miu Miu raspberry peep-toes more than once. When we looked at our past coverage of Kiernan, we realized she’s been on more best-dressed lists consistently than any other star on the blog. The last we saw her was at the SAG Awards, which happened on Sunday night, and — you guessed it — she made it to the best-dressed list once again. She came in somewhere very close to the top wearing a stunning, age-appropriate Oscar de la Renta midi, flared dress with darling silver shoes by the same designer. And if a 13-year-old wearing Oscar wasn’t too much to handle, how about this behind-the-scenes SAG Awards diary that Who What Wear published about her to really got those jealous juices flowing? Featuring some beautifully lit, ridiculously glamorous shots of the young star, it also helpfully informed us that not only was Kiernan wearing a hell of a lot of Oscar, she was also wearing Forevermark jewelry and was styled for the event by none other than Rachel Zoe‘s team. And no, envy is not becoming on any of us, but …
The SAG Awards were full of lovely ladies and gents in black and blue who did not in any way remind us of bruises, along with welcome splashes of silver and purple, but what we loved across the board on the 15 outfits we’ve selected below is the way their cuts play up the perfect bodies of their wearers. Amanda Seyfried feared walking in her glorious Zac Posen, and Jennifer Lawrence almost tripped on her Dior as she stepped up to accept Best Female Actor, but we appreciate the sacrifices they made in the name of fashion. Tina Fey continued the winning streak she began at the Golden Globes, and Kiernan Shipka continued the one she’ll probably be on for decades more to come. It was all a pretty good showing for yet another contest for a naked statuette!
We already know that Kristen Stewart is a stone cold fox in Zuhair Murad at the Breaking Dawn – Part 2 premiere in L.A. tonight. But there’s a lot more best-dressed action going on, on the black carpet as well. Kristen’s boyfriend, Robert Pattinson, for instance, is pulling off a bottle green Gucci suit. We kid you not. Also wearing the shade is a dark haired Dakota Fanning in an emerald Elie Saab, that’s lovely on her. Bella Thorne is in the same color too, wearing a mullet dress with a ruffled hem, paired with a black belt and pumps. Saoirse Ronan is ethereal in a white Simone Rocha dress and brogues, and the frock has this interesting broderie anglaise-esque hem on it. Christian Serratos is red-hot in a fire engine Zac Posen gown, YSL shoes, Judith Leiber clutch and Kisshy jewelry and is totally channeling an old Hollywood screen siren. Kiernan Shipka is chic in a navy frock with raspberry pumps and we want the whole damn thing. As we always do because she has the best stylist in the whole world who we want to be friends with. But … who really stole the show is Amadou Ly — Henri from the French coven — who came attired in full tribal gear. A nod to his Senegalese heritage? Either way, we love it! Check out all our picks in the gallery below and tell us if you agree!
If you think a lady needs to be able to vote or buy alcohol in order to kill it on the red carpet, you are of course mistaken. While there’s no doubt that Kristen Stewart slayed at tonight’s Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiere, what with her auburn tendrils and nude gown, the girls who really brought the fashion heat were all years away from being able to legally operate a motor vehicle. For our money, Hunger Games‘ Amandla Stenberg was the strongest contender among the middle school set, pairing her florescent patterned dress with jelly sandals. Oh, how those sandals bring us back. Breaking Dawn‘s Mackenzie Foy and Mad Men‘s Kiernan Shipka also looked equally put together and adorable. So is the ultimate red carpet secret having a mom to fix your hair and rub dirt off your face before you leave the house? We’re starting to suspect the answer is…yes. Read more…
One black and one white have already landed on the worst-dressed list at the Elle Women In Hollywood party, thanks to Lea Michele and Julianne Hough. The rest of the monochromatic bunch did alright for themselves, thankfully. Emma Watson played it super safe, perhaps because she was picking up the Calvin Klein Collection Emerging Star Spotlight Award. We’re assuming she’s wearing Calvin Klein! Elle Fanning shook things up as she usually does — we can’t believe we actually said that about a 14 year-old, but it’s true — in an edgy Calvin Klein dress and Dolce & Gabbana shoes and bag. Not many people could carry of that length, but Elle ends up looking coltish and youthful and pulls it off like a pro. We also can’t believe we’re saying this about a 12 year-old but we should get used to it because our favorite Kiernan Shipka is a sartorial star and didn’t disappoint at all in a gorgeous, age-appropriate Moschino dress. Is it wrong to want a 12 year-old’s wardrobe? We can’t help it — she always looks so wonderful!
We don’t want to rag on Uma Thurman because she just had a baby recently, so we won’t say much. But what we will say is that half-sheer skirts and lank hair don’t work on anyone. They wouldn’t even work on Jaime King, who is gorgeous and blessed with a body that comes around once every century or something. Luckily she went minimal and safe, like Emma, in pure white. We also think that Jenna Fischer‘s Basler dress, Cole Haan shoes and Lauren Merkin bag would have pulled together beautifully if she did something more exciting to her hair and face. A red lip wouldn’t kill her, right?
The 10th Annual Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party with Emporio Armani in Beverly Hills was a pretty successful bash last night, judging from the guest-list. Lots of young stars turned up to preen on the red carpet as you can see in our mega gallery below. Nikki Reed and cover girl Victoria Justice stood out from the dresses brigade wearing pants suits. Nikki wore a monochrome Emporio Armani jacket while Victoria chose a red blazer in the same brand with her blank tank and skinny trousers. Sarah Hyland and her Modern Family co-star, Ariel Winter, were lovely in a strapless taupe and black Erin by Erin Fetherstone mini-dress and minimal white Collette Dinnigan frock, respectively. Bella Thorne had her lovely titian hair tumbling down over a black dress and edgy metallic burgundy and silver ankle booties. Lucy Hale looked fresh and so pretty in a printed white and pale Christian Dior Resort 2012 collection dress while Hailee Steinfeld was working it in head-to-toe Louis Vuitton. They were just the tip of the iceberg as the ladies kept coming: Leslie Mann (in Rodarte), Kiernan Shipka (who is her stylist and where can we find them), Jessica Lowndes, Cody Horn, Claire Holt and a host of others. It’s gallery time! Who is your best-dressed pick? We think Kiernan leads the pack for us in that Opening Ceremony 2012 dress by far.
Let’s be real. Comedic geniuses and BFFs IRL Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have never looked better. Flaunting their figures in Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney frocks respectively, the pair looked confident, sexy and positively radiant. Whatever you’re doing, ladies, it’s working.
Other red carpet highlights included Kat Dennings‘ flawlessly foxy red-on-red look and Heidi Klum‘s doubly sky-high slits. Mad Men‘s Jessica Pare took a page from the Megan Draper fashionable playbook and rocked a custom Jason Wu black and white ensemble.

We want to be Kiernan Shipka when we grow up. Is that possible? Well, it certainly is possible to dream of one day becoming as mature, articulate and fashion-savvy as the 12-year-old Mad Men star. Her closet is the stuff of legends, and we are totally envious of Harper’s Bazaar editor Laura Brown, who stopped by the actress’ home for the above edition of the YouTube series “The Look” on the Hello Style channel. We can’t list all the things we love about this video, but here are some highlights:
1. She loves the red Little Mark shirt she’s wearing, especially with a cardigan, “because it’s kind of a printed, Peter Pan kind of vibe.”
2. She got to keep Sally Draper’s “back-up go-go boots” from this past season of Mad Men.
Oh, our noses! Look, we can’t stop Vince Vaughn from executive producing a Brady Bunch reboot. Seeing as how 21 Jump Street and 90210 were already taken, it was only a matter of time before someone reached even further back into the annals of television and noodled with the classic ’70s blended-family sitcom. According to Deadline, Vaughn’s update revolves around the conceit that the original show’s “youngest son Bobby Brady is divorced and remarried to a woman who also has first-marriage kids and the couple have their own child together.” There hasn’t been any casting news as of yet, which means there is still time for Vince Vaughn to read this post and act accordingly. If we’re going to do this, dude, then let’s do this right! By including actors and actresses like…
