15 Years Later: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Drop Dead Gorgeous

The year was 1999 and by the summer, teen films were all the rage. The year kicked off with two unexpected box office successes, Varsity Blues and She’s All That, before studios started pumping out hit after hit. In the same year, Drop Dead Gorgeous, a dark comedy about teenage girls competing in a local Minnesota beauty pageant, bombed at the box office. Unable to capture the same excitement as American Pie or 10 Things I Hate About You, the film quickly disappeared from theaters after earning a dismal $10.5 million at the box office.

It was only later, when released on DVD and VHS, did the movie become a cult classic. Similarly to Jawbreaker, which also came out in 1999, Drop Dead Gorgeous proved to be a pivotal film — introducing audiences to Amy Adams, making use of the mockumentary style — even if it was overlooked at the time.

On the 15th anniversary of the theatrical release, we talk to cast members, including Allison Janney, Denise Richards, and Mindy Sterling, who all shared tidbits from the set.

As far as we can see, the most romantic place to kiss someone is in the rain. How can we not think that after seeing Noah and Allie’s epic, passionate kiss in The Notebook? Their timeless love, culminating in the drama of the pouring rain and a smooch that makes us weak at the knees to even think about, is a moment we can only ever dream of recreating in our own lives. VH1 Vintage: Before Andrew And Emma, Kirsten Dunst And Tobey Maguire Kissed In The Rain

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens tomorrow, reuniting moviegoers with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, super-powered arachnids and a version of New York City that heavily relies on the work of selfless vigilantes. The real life couple’s chemistry is off the charts, leading the film to get praise for its romance and comedy moreso than simply a shiny new take on the classic comic. With so much history in the roles, and previous film adaptations that dominated the box office, each actor has big shoes to fill. Yes, I’m specifically talking about the cheery, p-ssy posse-approved kicks of Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire!

We may not have the big bucks to get the fancy blowouts celebrities get done by the best hairstylists, but there’s at least one thing we can get that puts us in the same league. Hair accessories, which have been huge this year! Floral head-pieces, sparkling stars, crystal hair-bows, and minimal metallic headbands have been all the rage and spotted on the likes of Katy Perry, Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lawrence. And plenty more, but we’ve culled out our top 15 looks for you out of all of 2012.

A couple of stand-outs for us. Sarah Jessica Parker‘s custom Mickey Mouse ears made by L’Wren Scott, worn when she hosted the Barneys New York And Disney Electric Holiday Window Unveiling in November, were to die for. Emma Stone‘s delicate gold Jennifer Behr laurel leaf bandeaux worn at the The Amazing Spider-Man premiere at Oktyabr cinema hall in Moscow in June had us floored.  Chloe Moretz also wore a darling crystal hair-bow at the National Board of Review Awards gala in January that wasn’t just age-appropriate. We insist it’s appropriate for every age. Which means a 30-year-old woman (i.e. this writer) gets to wear one and not feel like we’re edging in on a 14-year-old’s style territory! Feel free to pore through our gallery for the rest of the looks!

Isla Fisher, Kirsten Dunst and Lizzy Caplan Talk Teabagging on Good Morning America

One thing you don’t expect to hear discussed on chipper lighthearted breakfast television is sex acts. Which is why this clip from Good Morning America earlier today is one of the best things we’ve seen in a while. Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan swung by the Times Square set for a chat with host Elizabeth Vargas about their new movie, Bachelorette. But what started as a simple promotional stop turned into morning television gold as Fisher began to describe taking her 50-something mother to a strip-club. Admittedly we missed the first half of the story, but we’re guessing something bachelorette-y was involved.

“I thought it would be fun!” she says. “And it was fun initially. I dressed her in a red dogs collar. And then I went to the bathroom momentarily and when I came back a gentleman had removed his briefs, she was laying onstage laying flat and he was about to teabag her.” Bam. In one fell swoop, Isla Fisher just dropped what has to be the most depraved story we’ve ever heard told on daytime TV. No wonder gross-out comedian Sacha Baron Cohen marrired her! It’s hard to say which is better: the story, or Vargas’s puzzled reaction to the term “teabag.” Check out the full clip below and see what you think!
