HBO hosted an epic Game of Thrones season four premiere bash in Lincoln Center last night. There was a star-studded red carpet, a giant dragon and the world premiere screening of season four, episode one–and we were there on the red carpet and in the HBO Game of Thrones “Fan Zone.” We’ve got all the red carpet gossip and insider scoop on season four.
By now, everyone knows Lena Headey for her two onscreen personas: Queen Gorgo of the 300 franchise and Cersei Lannister of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Both are tough female characters that has Headey swinging swords, lashing tongues, and tempting men but ultimately one is the badder bitch.
On one hand you have Cersei Lannister. Headey’s character on HBO’s Game of Thrones is the former queen of King’s Landing. She’s ruthless, ill-tempered, full of pride and lives on a diet of wine and bitter contempt for those less fortunate than her. Then there’s Gorgo from 300. The queen of Sparta, now a widow, is a fierce leader with little regard for the city-states in Greece. Her main focus is maintaining the spirit of her former king and husband, Xerxes.
Ahead of the premiere of 300: Rise of an Empire, we ask Headey to pick who is tougher, sexier and would win in a fight.
Has Anne Hathaway been happy since winning her Academy Award? When does Kate Middleton say she’s having her baby? And Nicki Minaj: Movie Star? All this in today’s Last Lap.
Game of Thrones is returning to HBO this Sunday night and we couldn’t be more excited to go back to Westeros and back to the action, intrigue and sexy, sexy people. With so many characters occupying the world of Game of Thrones, it doesn’t matter whether you’re into regal beauties or murderous burn-scarred giants or adorable ingenues or creepy people without balls. There’s someone for everyone!
But what does your Game of Thrones crush say about you?
I started my day at the Spike Scream Awards on a shuttle bus, which carried press past Wisteria Lane (so cool!) and the Jaws set all the way to the outdoor amphitheater which housed the show. I ended the night washing down a slider with some red wine after a bear hug from Cuba Gooding Jr. Wanna know what happened in between? Read on for my account of the 11 Best Behind-the-Scene Moments at the Spike Scream Awards. I was there. For eight hours. And I screamed a lot…in a fangirl-y sorta way.
11. Everyone freaking out over Drive star Ron Perlman hanging out backstage. Nino, guys. Effing NINO. Press and stars alike stared in awe at the celebrated character actor, and I’m going to assume we were all thinking the same thing: “OMG the guy who plays Nino is here. He is so badass. Yep, I’m going to listen to the Drive soundtrack for the 202o13013560th time on my drive home tonight.”
10. Teen Wolf-ers Tyler Posey and Colton Haynes surprising their co-star (and candidate for prettiest redhead in the world) Holland Roden on the red carpet. She screamed – which was more than appropriate considering the night.
9. Lena Headley and Sean Bean from Game of Thrones sharing smokes and beers with Dr. Who star Matt Smith. Beautiful Brits stick together backstage.
8. Joe Manganiello — AKA Alcide on True Blood — asking me if he could swear on camera after he won Breakout Performance. Obviously I said yes. “It’s f*ckin’ awesome!” was his reply. He is an absolute delight.
