We cringed earlier this year after hearing about Lisa Robin Kelly‘s arrest for domestic abuse in April, specifically when we spotted her wild-eyed mugshot. As you can see from the That ’70s Show star’s most recent booking photo, sadly, not much has changed. TMZ first reported Kelly’s arrest following an alleged violent incident at her home in North Carolina Monday night; both the former actress and her husband were arrested and jailed as a result of the assault. Combine this news with her mugshots and that extremely unfortunate Good Morning America interview Lisa did this past spring, and you’ve painted a pretty depressing picture of where Laurie Foreman ended up after leaving Wisconsin, especially when compared to her costars.
If you were holding off on watching Lisa Robin Kelly‘s Good Morning America interview for fear that it would be too sad…you really hit the nail on the head this time. “My poor mother has to look at that picture of me,” the That ’70s Show star wept when confronted with her recent mugshot. “That doesn’t look like me. That’s not me.” When asked by ABC News’ Abbie Boudreau if she was on any substances when she was arrested this past weekend on domestic abuse charges, the actress fervently denied it. “There is nothing that I was on or abusing at that time,” she declares, while adding that abuse allegations made by her ex John Michas were “all bunch of made-up stuff!” Good, because we could not deal with this situation getting any more tragic.
To whit, Kelly also discussed her alcoholism, instigated by the loss of a baby. “With the ’70s Show, I was guilty of the drinking problem, and I ran,” Kelly admits, before concluding happily, “If I can make it through this, I can make it through anything.” Then just when you think you won’t have to grab any more tissues, Katie Couric adds, “It sort of seems like she’s kind of unraveling, doesn’t she?” Katie, come on! We mean, clearly! Obviously! But you don’t have to say it out loud!
Nothing demonstrates the highs and lows of post-sitcom fame like these two stories from the weekend: Ashton Kutcher has signed on to play Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic (we totally called it, btw), and Lisa Robin Kelly was arrested for domestic violence. You’re forgiven if you don’t remember Kelly — she played Eric’s hot older sister Laurie, who once dated Kutcher’s Kelso, on That ’70s Show for four seasons. (She left the show amid rumors of drug problems, returned to the show for a few eps in season five and then was replaced by Christina Moore in season six.) Actually, the popular Fox sitcom, which is on every day and night in syndication, is one of those rare shows that was neither a curse nor a surefire launching pad for its stars. We thought we’d look back on how its stars faired after leaving the Formans’ basement behind for good, and scored them on a scale of 1 to 5 Day-Glo flowers.
