How is this woman 40-years-old? How is she the mother of three children? Where the hell is she hiding that fountain of youth and how can we get some? Sorry, guys. These photographs of Jennie Garth frolicking poolside at the Azure Palazzo, Las Vegas over Labor Day weekend in her sunshine bikini made us bust a nerve. Danny Masterson was DJing at the event — called the Palazzo Resort & Casino Labor Day Celebration — but we dare say that all eyes were probably on Jennie and her unbelievable bod. Peter Facinelli‘s loss is clearly Luke Perry‘s gain. On that note, please, please, please God, let those dating rumors be true. Them developing a sitcom together can’t be the only story. It just can’t be. Luke’s a pretty lucky dude to be spending so much time with Jennie. She doesn’t look like she has much makeup on here, in these pictures. And her skin’s looking pretty great. All of her’s looking pretty great, even in that black crotchet coverup! We can’t figure out why exactly she’s giving the finger in the third picture, but our guess is it’s because she’s thinking, “You’ll never have abs like these, suckers!”
It’s going to take a lot more than this to convince us that Jennie Garth and Luke Perry aren’t totally and completely in luuuuv. After a couple of “they’re just friends” statements from the Beverly Hills, 90210 stars’ publicists earlier this week, Jennie’s rep tried a different tactic. They’ve been together all the time because they’re working on something!
“They have been spending a lot of time together recently because the two are working on developing a TV sitcom together,” the rep told RumorFix.com. “It will be a multi-camera half-hour show, currently we have producers and writers and are meeting with networks.”
This sounds like both an excellent idea AND a great excuse for those two to spend a lot of time “writing.”
What will this show be about? We kind of think their real-life story is made for adaptation. Much the same way James Van Der Beek plays a caricature of himself on Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, Jennie and Luke could be actors who made their names in a teen soap, and despite their undeniable chemistry, never had their timing right to hook up in real life … until now, when they’re divorced and more mature. But still wacky and fun, naturally.
Kelly Taylor and Dylan McKay hooked up, broke up, reunited, had a kid together, broke up again … and most recently, she chose a Old Navy jeans over him. Through it all, Beverly Hills, 90210 stars Jennie Garth and Luke Perry have remained nothing but close friends, as far as we can tell. Their friendship even led to Perry’s cameo on Garth’s sitcom What I Like About You. So when we heard from Perez Hilton and the National Enquirer that the newly divorced Jennie, 40, and Luke, 45, might have taken a step beyond just-friends after reuniting for those Old Navy ads, it warmed our fangirl hearts.
“Since seeing Luke again, Jennie has fallen in love with him and Luke feels the same,” a source told the Enquirer, via the New York Post. “There is an electricity between them that has been revived after all these years. It just happened.” Read more…
OK, so I work for VH1, which is basically the home of the instant-nostalgia machine. (Gosh, do you remember last week? Don’t you miss it?). Far be it from me to knock anyone else’s attempts to prey on our generation’s capacity to go weak in the knees at the mere hint of a cast reunion from one of our favorite shows or movies. (Wow, remember two days ago, when we got excited over a Dawson’s Creek reunion on Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23? That was awesome.) It’s more than just a chance to see some great characters again, it’s a chance to bond with all of our peers over how much we love that thing. But when I saw the new Old Navy ads, starring Jennie Garth, Jason Priestley, Luke Perry and Gabrielle Carteris, I wondered if maybe we’ve had our fill… at least of 90210 nostalgia.
We saw a few photos of Jennie Garth this week looking really good for someone who’s currently going through a divorce — maybe a little too good around the eyes, if you know what we mean. Of course, that made us wonder how the rest of the original flavor Beverly Hills, 90210 gang is doing these days. They’ve certainly gone through a lot of changes since the first episode of aired in October 1990. Some, like Garth and Shannen Doherty, went on to have other successful series on TV (What I Like About You and Charmed, respectively). Others, like Luke Perry and Jason Priestley, didn’t exactly see their careers take off like we expected. Gabrielle Carteris and Tori Spelling have had a good run as moms, both on and off the air. And we’re still waiting to see when Brian Austin Green and wife Megan Fox will announce her bun in the oven. Regardless of where their careers are these days (where is it, Ian Ziering?), we are pleased to report that most of the former residents of that famed zip code are still looking their sunny, attractive selves. And since we began writing this post, that guitar riff has not left our heads, so we’ll always have that. Anyway, check out this gallery of the kids from Beverly Hills High School both back in the day and now.
There’s no explanation for why Luke Perry dressed in this outfit to attend the MIPCOM event in Cannes last night, except perhaps that he needed to jet off to a Civil War reenactment immediately after. Or perhaps he’s entering an Oscar Wilde dress-alike contest? Oh no wait, we’ve got it, he’s trying to out-Depp Johnny Depp. That‘s what it is.
Just to show that this event was not in fact an early Halloween party, we’re including some shots of the other attendees who must have opted to ignore the Antebellum-attire memo. Other men take note: when Jon Hamm is attending the same party as you, a crazy suit is the one way to make sure you get noticed as much as he does.
For those of you who have yet to look at a calendar this morning, today’s date is September 2, 2010. Or, if you’re the type who prefers both brevity and decimal points, 9.02.10. In honor of such a momentous date, we thought we would pay tribute to the all-star cast of one of the greatest creative achievements of our lifetimes, Beverly Hills, 90210. (After all, it’s now or never; most of us won’t be around to celebrate the next time this date rolls around!)
It has been nearly 20 years since the show debuted on the (then fledgling) Fox Network, and it’s fair to say that none of our lives have been the same since. Dylan McKay and Brandon Walsh taught young men everywhere that nothing is more attractive than the combination of brooding glares and bitchin’ sideburns, and Brenda Walsh, Kelly Taylor and Donna Martin (Graduates!) proved to be some of the era’s biggest fashion icons (even if we laugh at their sundresses and chokers now).
So, won’t you join us as we take a trip down memory lane and through the halls of West Beverly High as we investigate how the show’s core cast members and impressive roster of guest stars (Hilary Swank! Ryan Seacrest! Um, Jamie Walters?!?) looked then and what they look like now. May the bridges we burn light the way!
