Call us out of the loop (never!) but we really didn’t know that the “Women In Film Crystal + Lucy Awards” were such a big deal. But so many stars turned up for the event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in L.A. that we sat up and took notice. Leading the way and looking like a young Bridget Bardot was Chloe Moretz. She was the recipient of the 2012 Women In Film Max Mara Face of the Future award and fittingly wore a Max Mara dress with Rupert Sanderson shoes, and a vintage bracelet by Susan Caplan. Also wearing Max Mara, but not to such a winning effect, was Jenna Dewan Tatum, in a pale jade jumpsuit with Jimmy Choo shoes, a Swarovski purse, and Irene Neuwirth jewels. Christina Applegate notched up the brand’s cred again, though. She received the Norma Zarky Humanitarian Award wearing a cherry red Max Mara dress with Louboutin heels. Stylin’!
That wasn’t by any means, the end of Max Mara’s reign on the red carpet. Cobie Smulders also wore the brand with a lovely blush-hued frock and a contrast waistband. Viola Davis was her usual best-dressed self wearing a Max Mara black strapless dress and ruby lips. Meryl Streep also had the brand’s “Elegante’” dress with a black grograin waistband on. Two major events took place on both coasts last night. The first was the amfAR Inspiration Gala at the New York Public Library. Hilary Swank and Fergie attended and both looked lovely. Swank was a breath of fresh air in ladylike monochromatic Marc Jacobs tea dress while Fergie looked svelte in a midi black sequined Calvin Klein Collection sheath. Nicely done, ladies! The other party was the AFI’s 40th Life Achievement Award in honor of Shirley Maclaine in Culver City, California. We loved Dakota Fanning‘s flowing Gucci dress. She personalized it by adding Cartier bracelets and a Gucci belt. Mena Suvari wore a similarly themed Goddess gown, only hers was a white halter version with a black ruffle detail. Marcia Gay Harden also knocked it out of the park in a black circle dress and strappy heels. It was perfect for her figure. The sexiest outfit for the night, though, goes to Jennifer Aniston who glowed in a low-cut, leggy white Burberry gown. C’est magnifique!
Sadly, Katherine Heigl didn’t fare as well as her compadres. While her Monique Lhuillier gown was quite sexy — it had a long slit up the side — something was very wrong with her makeup and hair. We kid you not. It felt like she had touch of too much sun and drove to the event with the windows down. We aren’t exaggerating! Wow, maybe family is the most important thing for Brad Pitt…that or he’s afraid of Angelina Jolie‘s sex grotto. Terrence Malick‘s Tree Of Life won the Golden Palm, Cannes’ highest honor, this weekend, but Pitt—who produced and starred in the film—wasn’t around to soak in the praise. No, the two-time Academy Award nominee had jetted back to Hollywood to stand beside his wife at the Kung Fu Panda 2 premiere in khakis and a matching tan shirt, leaving non-famous producers Bill Pohlad and Dede Gardner to accept the award for the reclusive Malick and ridiculous Pitt. It looks like Brad took Malick’s message of love and family to heart and knew his time was best spent with people dressed like pandas, and friends like Jack Black and Seth Rogen, rather than the cineastes of Europe. Plus, again, the sex grotto.
Check out the gallery to see photos of Lucy Liu, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Marcia Gay Harden and other stars who probably would have rather been at Cannes. But not Brad!
