The Heat is killing it at the box office, making us all quite hopeful for the prospects of more female-led action comedies. We’re also wondering if it leaves the door open for a slightly different “female” FBI duo: Shawn and Marlon Wayans‘ blond alter egos from 2004’s White Chicks. Marlon, who also appears in The Heat as an FBI agent, told VH1 about the odds of a sequel.
When you hear that Marlon Wayans is in a broad buddy-cop comedy, you wouldn’t be blamed for assuming that the White Chicks star was one of said buddies. But in The Heat, the youngest Wayans brother is happy to be the relegated to the straight-guy role, playing Sandra Bullock’s FBI love interest, leaving the comedy up to Sandy and Melissa McCarthy. “I couldn’t be as silly as I wanted to be ’cause that wasn’t the role I was playing,” he told VH1 News. “The role I was playing was ‘the cute guy,’ and so I watched them be really funny.”
And after watching his co-stars in the Paul Feig-directed movie, what does Wayans have to say about the antiquated notion that women aren’t as funny as men?
Marlon Wayans sizzles in The Heat, Russell Brand seeks a wife, and the Fifty Shades Of Grey film gets a release date.
People who know about sports — and all of the news articles — tell us that it’s a big deal to see brothers Jim and John Harbaugh face off against each other in Sunday’s Super Bowl as head coaches of the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens, respectively. That got us thinking about all the other bros who channeled their sibling rivalry into world-famous careers. (Strange, most siblings I know, myself and my sis included, almost deliberately chose radically different paths in life.) Of course, we’ve had the Baldwins, the Weinsteins, the Coens, the Hansons and the Jonases for a while. But who are the most influential brothers in entertainment right now?
Well, there are still the Wayans brothers, who haven’t made a movie together for a couple of years but whose influence is now being felt in the form of their nephews, via Happy Endings and Second Generation Wayans. James Franco has been sharing his knack for balancing mainstream flicks with weird indie projects with li’l bro Dave (who can be seen in this weekend’s Warm Bodies). Then there are the Hemsworths, whose adorable Australian mugs and breathtaking bodies have landed them the hottest movie franchises around. Donnie Wahlberg is dividing his time between the small screen (Blue Bloods) and the stage (with the NKOTB summer tour), while his younger brother Mark does double duty as a movie star and a hugely successful TV and movie producer (especially now that Entourage is heading to theaters). But for our money, the biggest bro team around at the moment is Ben and Casey Affleck. Sure, that’s mostly due to Ben’s amazing, award-winning run as the director and star of Oscar favorite Argo, but all that buzz is helping Casey’s career too. Casey’s turn in the outlaw flick Ain’t Them Bodies Saints just got plenty of good buzz at Sundance last week, and we bet you didn’t know he’s got a movie in the running at the Oscars too: He voiced the character of Mitch in last year’s Paranorman.

Though Robert Pattinson has made his share of independent movies in his career, this week’s Cosmopolis is widely thought of has his big move to make a post-Twilight career for himself. And he certainly wouldn’t be the first hot young actor to make a case for himself as a serious actor by taking a giant step into the world of dark and twisty films. Many a heartthrob has gone from the pages of Tiger Beat to the local arthouse theater quite soon after they made it big, from Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix’s turns as gay hustlers in My Own Private Idaho to Daniel Radcliffe’s recent venture into spooky suspense with The Woman in Black. Sometimes it’s because they really love the art of filmmaking, like Rob seems to, and other times, it seems like a calculated move to make themselves Oscar contenders instead of Teen Choice surfboard winners.
Sometimes, they find their comfort zone in dark and twisty, sometimes, like in the case of Marlon Wayans, who surprised critics with his performance in Requiem for a Dream, it turns out to be a one-time-only deal. Still, we love them all for trying! Here are our 10 favorite arty and deep roles taken on by mainstream hotties:
Do you remember back in the early days of Twilight, when people who weren’t teenage girls (or those early-adopter Twi-moms) kind of only sheepishly admitted to being Twi-hards? Ancient history. The proof is in the guest list of last night’s black-carpet premiere of Breaking Dawn Part 1. In addition to all the cast of the films, we expected to see a who’s who of young Hollywood, so folks like Ashley Tisdale and Ashley Benson were no surprise. But Ron Artest? That was such a surprise that none of the photographers seem to have snapped him. Other interesting guests included Heather Locklear, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Danica Patrick and Rob Lowe. Even electronic dance musician Kaskade made an appearance. So, were they there for a photo op, or really excited to see Edward and Bella’s wedding? Flip through the pics of these random celebs and let us know what you think.

Marlon Wayans cut his finger partying with his brother Shawn in Uruguay last night, and despite the bikini babes they were spotted with earlier, apparently no one was there to kiss and make it better. The Little Man actor put garish photos of the injury on his Twitter account, culminating in a bloody shot of the unbandaged finger. “Hurts like a bitch. Taking yall thru my pain. Left handed!” Apparently not satisfied with the brutal photos, he noted “My biggest concern is HOW DO I WIPE MY ASS??? ArgggGh!” You still got it, Marl!

In the early 2000’s, Good Charlotte were one of the biggest pop-punk bands around and Shawn & Marlon Wayans had successfully traded TV stardom for hit film comedies like Scary Movie and White Chicks. Now, less than a decade later, the Maddens and the Wayans have teamed up to pose with a box of diapers. The two sets of bros met up at “Daddy On Diapers Duty” promotional play date put together by Pampers to celebrate Father’s Day and promote the latest developments in child crap containment. Best part of this photo? Benji Madden, the dude holding the diapers, is not a father. Guess Uncle Benj just didn’t have anywhere better to be last night.
