Good lord in Fugven! The wardrobe on Reese Witherspoon in Devil’s Own and Elizabeth Olsen in Very Good Girls has our eyebrows kissing the top of our heads. See, this is what can happen when they try to make the beautiful people look less beautiful: they transform a beautiful person…into a blazing hot mess. That paisley? How? What? Wha? No!
Now, fugly wardrobe is not to be confused with an actor or actress who purposely become less hot in order to transform into an actual preexisting human being (Charlize Theron in Monster, anyone?), like those Oscar nominees featured in our list of Scarily Accurate Historical Figure Portrayals. It is simply a costume that was carefully hand-selected by a film’s wardrobe department to depict a certain time period or personal style…and also happens to be very, very, very fugly. Reese and Elizabeth, you know what we’re talking about. Why does Dakota Fanning look relatively normal and Elizabeth have that monstrous shirt on? Okay, sorry. Let us do our breathing exercises for a second. You can’t see it, but we’re shaking our heads on your behalf, ladies, and on behalf of everyone else on our Fugliest Movie Wardrobe list:
Before we say anything about what everyone else wore, we need to say this … HOLY SH–, CHARLIZE THERON! How does she do it? And by that we mean, how does she look like that? The CinemaCon 2012 Awards Ceremony went down at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas last night, and Charlize slinked down the red carpet wearing the sexiest, raciest Dion Lee LBD in the history of all little black dresses. The fact that she wore strappy Giuseppe Zanotti heels didn’t hurt either. Take a bow, Charlize.
Also wearing black at the same event were Jennifer Garner and Michelle Pfeiffer. Jennifer wasn’t quite working her Michael Kors dress, perhaps because it should have been worn with different shoes. The ones she had on looked like bandages and were far too clunky. Michelle defied age in her a sheer-panelled dress that showed off a rocking bod. Our favorite, other than Charlize, would be Chloe Moretz who wore a metallic dark blue Kenzo dress with hidden slant pockets.
Other celebrities who attended included the likes of Josh Hutcherson, Anna Faris and Jeremy Renner, to name a few.
Lea Michele nailed it at the world premiere of New Year’s Eve in L.A. She picked this Valentino gown with Christian Louboutin shoes and Neil Lane jewels and hasn’t made one bad decision from head to toe. While she looked elegant, she couldn’t resist hamming it up with Ashton Kutcher (who really needs a haircut) on the red carpet, as you can see above. Looking a lot more streamlined in his suit was Zac Efron, who doesn’t seem to have a bad angle.
We’ve always loved Michelle Pfeiffer whose 53-year-old body looked amazing in a purple Dolce & Gabbana dress, but we aren’t too sure of the matchy-matchy purple pumps that went with the outfit. Wearing the same designer was Katherine Heigl, and while she looked good in her strapless dress, that hair took the attention away. We’re not sure many people can pull off a bouffant bob. Take note, Katy. Also seen were Hilary Swank in a navy, lacy Elie Saab dress, Fergie who piled on the sparkles in Monique Lhuillier and Sofia Vergara in a corseted black sexpot number. Take a look in our gallery below.
Like we’re going to pretend we didn’t enjoy seeing Katherine Heigl slap Jon Bon Jovi in the full New Year’s Eve trailer. You know we’re not made of stone. While the movie is still overstuffed with celebrities from Ashton Kutcher to Zac Efron, and Michelle Pfeiffer‘s wig still looks like it crawled out of a drainage ditch behind the mop factory, it’s hard not to like a film that’s basically 90 minutes of witty banter leading up to a bunch of A-lister smooching and falling in love. Count us in! Oh, except for the part when Abigail Breslin shows off her brasserie to her horrified mother Sarah Jessica Parker for no apparent reason. What was that about? Girl child is 15!
Michelle Pfeiffer is one of those actresses that we will be eternally jealous of. She is stunning and has been since we first laid eyes on her in Grease 2. We even forgive her for Grease 2 because we like her so much. Which is why we feel a little bad for her that her hair and makeup on the set of the film New Year’s Eve makes her look so… rough. The woman is naturally gorgeous and is being made to look haggard, not to mention the fact that she has to fall into a heap of garbage in the film. That’s no way to treat a lady.
Now, we don’t have high hopes for New Year’s Eve. Chances are, if it’s anything like its predecessor, Valentine’s Day, it will be a waste of a huge pool of talent and a mind-numbing 90 minutes. So we wonder, why bother to pull a Kidman-Theron-DeNiro and alter your appearance like that if there’s no hope for an Oscar?
Of course this was always going to happen. Megan Fox and her sexy everythings are going to play Catwoman in the forthcoming Batman movie. Just like Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry before her, Megan is going to nobly look past her “insecurities” to squeeze into a leather catsuit for her many appreciative fans. Just make sure you don’t accidentally wander into Christian Bale’s eyeshot when he’s emoting on set, Megan. He might get a little bit annoyed. [Photo: Splash News Online]
Note to just about every over-40 in Hollywood: this is what growing old gracefully looks like. Michelle Pfeiffer turned up at a screening of her latest movie Cheri looking totally gorgeous and – shocker! – age appropriate. OK, not everyone can pull off a clingy white dress and look that stunning. But it’s totally refreshing that 51-year-old Michelle appears not to have chosen to freeze, plump, erase or fill most of her face in order to look “younger.” And she looks even hotter for it. In 1989, Michelle Pfeiffer received her first Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama for The Fabulous Baker Boys—but lost the Oscar. That same year, Daniel Day-Lewis took home his first Oscar for Best Actor for My Left Foot—but lost the Golden Globe. Both actors were born on April 29. Which one is older?
