Joss Whedon is notorious for working with the same pool of actors. Several have gone on to appear in multiple projects of his from TV (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) to movies (The Avengers, Cabin In The Woods). Much Ado About Nothing (opening in limited theaters on June 7th and nationwide on June 21st) is no different. His Shakespearean adaptation includes several familiar faces, including Nathan Fillion, Clark Gregg and Fran Kanz.
The Percy Jackson series of fantasy novels is one of the most popular YA series of the last decade. After the monster success of the Twilight franchise, Hollywood went in search of the next big franchise that they could cultivate from the YA well. Some of tanked (*cough* Beautiful Creatures *cough), but the first Percy film, 2010′s Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, did well enough at the box office to warrant a sequel. Thanks to our friends over at MTV Movies, we’re excited to share the new trailer for the sequel, Percy Jackson And The Sea Of Monsters, with you this morning.
Awards Season 2013 kicked off tonight with the People’s Choice Awards on CBS, and while we didn’t get any nip slips or f-bombs or other kind of flubs, host Kaley Cuoco and a cavalcade of stars kept it moving with some solid banter. From Ellen DeGeneres‘ Mayan prediction to Chris Colfer‘s fanfic shout-out, our favorite gems (other than Sandra Bullock‘s tear-jerking Favorite Humanitarian Award’s speech; we’re not going to try to recapture it) included…
Just when we were struggling to think of a new way of reporting on the latest lawsuit facing former Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash, Neil Patrick Harris came bursting out of the darkness to rescue us — much the way he once saved Harold and Kumar from having to forgo their White Castle meal. NPH, partner David Burtka and none other than the Jim Henson Company teamed up to create Neil’s Puppet Dreams, a seven-part series on Nerdist.com about the actor’s tendency to “dream in puppet.”
Oh, our noses! Look, we can’t stop Vince Vaughn from executive producing a Brady Bunch reboot. Seeing as how 21 Jump Street and 90210 were already taken, it was only a matter of time before someone reached even further back into the annals of television and noodled with the classic ’70s blended-family sitcom. According to Deadline, Vaughn’s update revolves around the conceit that the original show’s “youngest son Bobby Brady is divorced and remarried to a woman who also has first-marriage kids and the couple have their own child together.” There hasn’t been any casting news as of yet, which means there is still time for Vince Vaughn to read this post and act accordingly. If we’re going to do this, dude, then let’s do this right! By including actors and actresses like…
Surprise, Buffy/Firefly/Avengers/Dollhouse/Dr. Horrible fans! Joss Whedon has been cheating on you. OK, not really, but he was really sneaky and for some reason wrote and directed an entire movie, somehow based on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, in secret. That’s according to a website that popped up on Sunday night, which simply announced the “completion of principle photography” and featured the above pic and a cast list that includes Angel/Dollhouse alums Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof, Firefly/Serenity’s Nathan Fillion and Sean Maher, and other Whedonverse and non-Whedonverse actors. “A film by Joss Whedon based on a play,” it says at the bottom of the page.
Whedonites are probably scratching their heads about all this secrecy — is it a rejection of the hype that usually accompanies Joss projects? Read more…
New York got a hot beef injection last night thanks to Cosmopolitan Magazine’s Fun Fearless Male Awards of 2010 at the Mandarin Orange Hotel. Among those proving their fearlessness by embracing the phrase “Fun Fearless Male” were Gerard Butler (always game for a goofy photo op), Twilight studs Kellan Lutzand Paul Wesley, True Blood vampire Stephen Moyer, Gossip Girl vampire Ed Westwick, TV detectives Chris O’Donnell and Nathan Fillion, Terrell Owens, Dr. Oz and Ne-Yo—the funnest, most fearless male of all. Soak up the stud sauce in the gallery below.
