Hollywood Walks The Black Carpet For The Opera

Are sombre colors a thing at the opera? Jules Massenet’s Manon had its gala premiere at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York last night, and there was a lot of black fashion to match the black carpet. January Jones led the way in a severe Yves Saint Laurent gown which she pulled off even though she was covered from head to toe. Since YSL sponsored the evening, most of the lovely ladies who attended wore the designer. These included Amber Heard who was very sexy in black with a cutaway back, and Chloe Moretz who looked far older than her years in a navy-and-black strapless gown with a choker.

Amber’s gown FYI, was deceptively simple from the front, as you can see in the photograph below. Like Chloe, Emmy Rossum also wore a choker, and provided relief from all the black wearing a hot pink strapless gown. Emma Roberts also attended the event, but picked a jumpsuit, rather than a dress. That’s five YSL looks in one evening and every single one was completely different from the other.

Love them? Hate them? Sorta sold on them? Let us know. We’ve saved the “best” for last for you, though. Patricia Clarkson also attended the evening and considering what she was wearing, we’re wondering whether she was in the production of Manon. Check out her very interesting (we’re being polite) after the jump. Spoiler: be prepared to gaze upon an honest-to-goodness cape!  Read more…

This Red Carpet Is An Easy A

Easy A is our favorite kind of comedy – a slightly dark high school flick full of young, emerging stars, but chock full of cameos by some veteran actors we love. For a film that takes place in school, one thing is for sure – no one needs style lessons on this red carpet.

The star of the film, Emma Stone, spent most of the last night’s premiere stuck to pal Taylor Swift’s hip and they both looked sparkly and glam in their thigh-high dresses. Putting them both to shame though was Patricia Clarkson, who can class up any joint. Side note – the movie’s cast is kind of insane, right? Clarkson, Lisa Kudrow, Malcom McDowell, and Stanley Tucci? And it’s not even an indie movie with grown-up, depressing themes! Unfortunately the men were absent last night but the ladies all looked amazing. High grades all around for this cast.

Natalie Portman Flaunts A Flapper Look At The Gotham Awards

Natalie Portman exploited her gamine physique in an old-fashioned flapper dress at the 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards in NYC last night, where she took home a lifetime achievement award…despite not even being 30! Natalie is an early contender to be nominated for Best Actress for her role in Brothers at awards shows this season, including the Critics Choice Movie Awards, The Golden Globes and the Oscars.

Also receiving career tributes were Stanley Tucci and director Kathryn Bigelow, whose film The Hurt Locker also snagged Best Film and Best Ensemble Performance. See who else attended in the gallery below.
