While most celeb-obsessed eyes are still nursing real or vicarious Golden Globes-related hangovers, we thought we’d bring you a bit of news from the U.K., namely, that St. James Palace has decided to reveal Kate Middleton’s due date. “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in July,” said a statement released to Us Weekly.
This announcement confirms two things for us: 1) She’s not having twins, as some had speculated due to the prevalence of extreme morning sickness among women carrying multiples. And 2) her hospitalization forced the royals to reveal her pregnancy about a month before they ideally would have liked to. If she’s due in July, she was very early into her first month or two of pregnancy when they made the announcement.
But the great news is that Kate is doing much better these days. “The Duchess’s condition continues to improve since her stay in hospital last month,” the royal statement says. And now we can all begin to buy those baby gifts for the happy couple. We just hope they don’t invite these guys to the shower.
Jacintha Saldanha, a nurse working as a receptionist at King Edward VII Hospital, where a pregnant Kate Middleton was recovering from extreme morning sickness, was found dead this morning, and police suspect suicide, the Daily Mail reports. Saldanha was apparently the receptionist who fell for the prank call made earlier this week by Australian radio DJs, impersonating Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles to get intel on the Duchess’ health.
“Jacintha has worked at the King Edward VII Hospital for more than four years. She was an excellent nurse and well respected and popular with all over her colleagues,” a statement from the hospital said of the mother of two, who was found unconscious at a residence near the hospital and could not be revived. “We can confirm that Jacintha was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital. The hospital had been supporting her throughout this difficult time.” Read more…
Can you even imagine what it’s like to be a nurse treating the expectant mother of the possible future King or Queen of England? It’s not like any hospital nurses have easy gigs as it is, what with the long hours and bodily fluids and being responsible for people’s health. Sure, the staff at King Edward VII’s hospital were probably initially excited that Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, would be treated for her extreme morning sickness at their facility, but then the pressure was on to get her back in royal shape. Which is why we are not amused at all by the prank pulled by Australian 2Day FM radio hosts Mel Greig and Michael Christian yesterday morning.
The DJs somehow acquired the phone number of Kate’s ward and called to see if, using terrible accents pretending to be Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles, they could get an update on her health. To their astonishment, they were put through to a nurse, who cheerfully responded to their questions about the duchess’ “tummy bug.” “She’s sleeping at the moment and she has had an uneventful night,” the woman told Greig. “She’s been given some fluids, she’s stable at the moment.”
Today, the hospital released a statement acknowledging that they fell for the prank. “This call was transferred through to a ward and a short conversation was held with one of the nursing staff. King Edward VII’s Hospital deeply regrets this incident.”
Now, the poor nurse didn’t reveal much more info than you’d expect a publicist to release, but man, she must be dying of remorse right about now. But it’s not her fault! She’d been up all night taking care of an ailing pregnant woman and someone just handed her the phone. For their part the DJs feel bad that such a stir was caused too, since they clearly didn’t think things would go that far. “We were very surprised that our call was put through, we thought we’d be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents. We’re very sorry if we’ve caused any issues and we’re glad to hear that Kate is doing well.”
So basically, we expect whoever answers the phones at King Edward VII is in deep …
William, the Duke of Cambridge, leaves the hospital after visiting his ailing pregnant wife
Congrats, William and Kate! We all knew that if we speculated about this enough times, eventually it would be true: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their first child, their spokespeople at Clarence House announced today (which we learned via Today, since everyone has crashed all the official royal sites with their excitement over the news). Unfortunately, it seems that they were forced to announce this news because Kate was admitted to the hospital Monday morning with severe morning sickness and is expected to stay hospitalized for days, as the pregnancy is in its very early stages. Ooooh, we feel your pain, Mama! But congrats anyway!
The couple have only been married for a year and a half, but bump watch has been in full effect since their wedding in April 2011. When Kate drank water instead of wine at an event in September, the media went crazy (and yeah, we can totally relate to that one too — which, what does that say about our normal drinking habits?). Lately, some sites were even pointing to the fuller shape of the Duchess’ face as proof that she was with child.
The newest addition to the royal family will be third in line for the throne, after his/her grandpa Prince Charles and dad William. (Harry, you are free to resume your naked billiards, as you are now fourth in line.)
Way to go Angelina Jolie, Catherine Middleton! Okay, we’re not saying that Kate’s leg is as visible as Angelina’s leg at the Oscar’s, but for a member of the Royal Family, this is a pretty solid display of flesh. The Duchess and her husband, Prince William were at the Claridges Hotel in Mayfair, London, yesterday to go to the elite dining club called “Thirty Club”, and wifey really nailed it. Kate wore a cream Roland Mouret gown called the “lombard” which was from Mouret’s 2009 line, and inspired by the actress Carole Lombard. Not only was it slim-fit, but it had this cheeky slit up the front, which allowed the Duchess to flash some very toned legs. The fact that they were encased in crystal-studded Jimmy Choo’s made it even better. Don’t think we didn’t notice the red-painted toenails, Kate! Can we please add this to her list of best fashion looks?
Happy one-year anniversary, Prince William and Kate Middleton! Who can forget they royal wedding last year on April, 29. You cried, we cried and we all fell in love with her Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding gown. Magical for everyone, right? Through this first year of them being married, Will and Kate have only succeeded in endearing themselves even more to the world because of the fact that they’re so frickin’ adorable together! Their tour through Canada and the U.S provided tons of moments of their very evident affection for each other, even though they tried their hardest to be prim! And on their home turf in England, we totally fell for Kate giggling while William showed off his dance moves at Centrepoint, last year in December?
Because of the fact that we adore these two, we wanted to do something to celebrate their one-year anniversary. It’s our little present to them. We already published an exhaustive gallery and poll of Kate’s top 25 style moments through her first year as Duchess of Cambridge, as an homage to her spot-on fashion sense. Now, we’d like to give you something of them doing what they do best — being a couple. And Voila! We have a gallery right below of Kate and Williams 15 most adorable moments together through the year. Click through each picture to look at their journey full of love, hugs, kisses and laughs. Happy happies, Will and Kate! We look forward to seeing many more years of you two being the cutest royal pair ever.
Has it already been a year since Prince William and Kate Middleton got hitched? It will be on Sunday, April 29, and we’re going to swig a glass or two (or three) for the royal couple. More than anything, this last year is when we completely fell in love with Kate and her winsome style. Seriously, the woman never fails to put her best fashion foot forward. More than anything, she puts in a lot of thought into the political context of her clothes, which is always appreciated. Remember when she wore Canadian designer Erdem Moralioglu while visiting Canada? Or that fab red Maple Leaf hat by Lock And Co. on Canada Day celebrations? Smart moves, gurl. And they — along with her gracious personality — have only served to win her more fans.
So, in celebration of her royal style and of her impending one-year anniversary on Sunday, we’ve compiled an epic gallery of Kate’s top 25 looks. It was a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it. But we also want you to get involved. We’ve got a numbered list of all the 25 looks right below, in order of our preference. Go through the list (you won’t be sorry) which is linked to the corresponding picture in the gallery. The gallery is also numbered from 1-25 in case you want to go straight to it. Below it, we’ve got ourselves a poll of the top 15 of that list. We’d love for you to vote and tell which is your favorite. We’ve even got the designers and milliners down for every outfit, so have a ball, click away and vote, vote, vote!
Oh look, it’s our future husband! Please don’t ask us how many times we’ve watched this video of Prince Harry dancing, because it’s an embarrassing number. He’s in Jamaica currently — wait, we have to interrupt this to just point out the genius putting together the royal calender and sending Harry, who is known to have a gooood time mon, to the Caribbean? Excellent move. Right, so he’s in Jamaica on an official visit as a part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. He visited a youth center in Kingston where, during the event, a performance to Bob Marley took place. And of course, one of the dancers pulled up Harry, who was quite aptly, wearing a pair of blue (suede) shoes. Watch the video yourself to see if his reggae moves worked for you? Because they certainly worked for us. We’re going to call Harry and his older brother Prince William the ‘dancing Royals’ from now on. Remember how William broke it down at Centrepoint a couple of months ago? We think Harry wins this round solely for those pretty solid hip movements. We doubt they get it from their father, Prince Charles. Remember this?
We all know Nicki Minaj prides herself on her exaggerated style — and we’re not sure which came first, the Barbie nickname or her love of wearing Malibu Barbie pink clothing. So it wasn’t too surprising to see her pink and electic blue ensemble at last night’s MAC Viva Glam event. What was surprising, however, was to see a photo of Michelle Williams in a Christian Dior gown that was a very Barbie (or Barbz, for that matter) shade of pink at the Paris premiere of My Week With Marilyn. Three’s a trend, the saying goes, so we’re counting the news that Mattel is releasing 11-inch dolls modeled after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in April, to celebrate William and Kate’s first anniversary. Now, doesn’t that make it seem like, for one day at least, everyone was feeling a little nostalgic for their tiny plastic Corvette and miniature high heels and that dream house with the elevator that only one Barbie at a time could ride? Oh, and there were horses and dogs too, and a costume for every career in existence. Damn, Barbie had it all, didn’t she?
Woah. Sorry, for that tangent. Anyway, we’d like to pose this important question to you:
Happy Birthday, Kate Middleton! Our favorite Duchess of Cambridge turns 30 today and brought in the big day looking pretty fabulous. Kate and husband Prince William were at the U.K. premiere of War Horse in London. She brought the house down in a very beautiful, very sexy black lace dress by Temperley London, which was kept dry from the rain thanks to her husband’s very gallant umbrella holding. Kate and William were there representing as patrons for the event benefitting The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry. As you can tell, we’re huge fans. Have fun celebrating the big three-oh today, Kate. We’re sure our invitation got lost in the mail.
