The Avengers is raking it in at the box office this weekend — it already has the highest midnight opening of a comic-book movie — and even though it’s probably not going to break that many records, we’re pretty sure Robert Downey Jr. and company are at the top of Marvel’s list of real-life heroes. At the red-carpet premiere of the movie last week, we decided to let the stars get a little sappy and share who their heroes are. Get ready to “awwww.”
“My mum and my dad,” Tom Hiddleston, who plays villain Loki, told VH1 News without hesitation. “Just because they’ve taught me everything I know really about life. They haven’t consciously taught it to me, they, they’ve just, uh, lead by example. They’re intensely good people, with a great deal of kindness and humility. It’s only now that I’m older that I can appreciate it.”
Clark Gregg also praised his Stanford professor father, “who’s dedicated his life to exploring different religions in a way that breaks down the imagined barriers,” along with President Obama. “I’m gonna come out and say that I’m a big fan of Barack Obama,” he said. “I don’t think he had a perfect first term but I believe, I like the things he believes in.”

What Makes Avengers Villain Tom Hiddleston Geek Out?
While comic book fans the world over are totally freaking out over The Avengers this weekend (or last weekend, if they’re those lucky folks overseas), we kind of wonder what the stars of the movie geek out about themselves. VH1 News asked Tom Hiddleston at the New York premiere of the movie, and the answer makes him seem the very opposite of his super evil character Loki. In fact, we won’t be surprised if it clenches him the victory in our Summer Movie Villains poll.
“I’m quite a geeky runner; I love running,” he admitted. “I’m also a geek about tennis. I love watching tennis, I get obsessed by it, I don’t know why. I think I find it so dramatic, like, because after, at a certain level, it doesn’t matter how good you are and how much training you’ve done, it’s like up here [in your head] and in [your heart]. So when you see people like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and [Novak] Djokovic go at it, it’s just like a battle of wits and heart. I’m getting geeky about it right now!”

Charlize Theron, Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hardy: Who Will Be This Summer’s Most Badass Movie Villain?

Sorry, Snow White. Nothing personal, Thor. Of course we still love you, the Batman. We always will. It’s just that when it comes to summer movies, we love a glowering villain as much as we love a virtuous hero. Maybe a little more. Maybe … a lot more.
Luckily for us (and you!), this summer’s films are jam-packed with some of the most malevolent evil characters imaginable, ready to face off against the hottest heroes and heroines from May to August. Tom Hiddleston reprises his Thor role as power-hungry extraterrestrial Loki in this week’s The Avengers, while Flight of the Concords’ Jemaine Clement breaks Will Smith‘s stride as an easy-riding alien by the name of Boris in Men in Black III. Closer to home (and to your childhood nightmares), Queen Charlize Theron goes after Kristen Stewart‘s heart (not in the romantic way) in Snow White and the Huntsman, while Eva Green does the same to Johnny Depp (in both the romantic and evil way?) as smitten witch Angelique Bouchard in Dark Shadows.
Of course, not every memorable villain has to be from another planet or or the fairy-tale realm. Some of them can be regular ol’ criminal masterminds, like Salma Hayek‘s drug kingpin Elena in Savages, Faran Tahir‘s Cobra Commander in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Bryan Cranston‘s Vilos Cohaagen in the Total Recall remake and Edward Norton‘s Byer in The Bourne Legacy. We are especially psyched to see Tom Hardy‘s Bane grapple the Caped Crusader in The Dark Knight Rises while Rhys Ifans takes on Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man. Because what’s an epic battle scene with out an epic villain? A 15-second slap fight?
Not that every villain has to be locked in life-or-death combat, mind you. Some of them are just maniacally vain. Sacha Baron Cohen‘s General Aladeen in The Dictator, anyone? Catherine Zeta-Jones‘ high-strung Patricia Whitmore will also be inflicting all the damage she can against the demon that is rock in Rock of Ages, while Adam Sandler only accidentally ruins his son Andy Samberg‘s wedding/marriage/life. That being said, if you somehow get your only child to throw up on his fiance’s wedding dress … yeah, you’re the bad guy.
Finally, we have to give props to those villains who don’t even come in a humanoid package. We are dying to see what the surprisingly awesome-looking Battleship aliens look like under their masks (Weird eyes? Check! Four-fingered hand? Check!), and we’re all ready to take our hats off to the Piranhas 3DD piranhas. Not only are they blood-thirsty, they are also responsible for Ving Rhames‘ character having machine gun legs. What aren’t villains good for? Which big bad has your ticket-buying hands shaking with anticipation this summer? Check out our gallery of villainy, and cast your vote. Just remember: When it comes to picking a favorite archnemesis, there is no wrong choice.
Celebrities Storm The Avengers Red Carpet, The Men Win This Round

Remember how Scarlett Johansson told Flare magazine that she was the “only girl in the film,” and that she is “obviously going to be more aware that I’m surrounded by a bunch of suits. Everybody is going to be wearing black and grey and it will be nice to add femininity and some female sex appeal to the lineup. I think I’ll steer clear of the tuxedo”? She was talking, of course, about her film The Avengers, which premiered last night in L.A. And no matter how much “female sex appeal” she brought, the men were the clear winners of this round.
Scarlett herself wore a little black dress by Versace which we’re still trying to love, but all eyes were on the dudes. Robert Downey Jr. was flamboyant in an eggplant suit while Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner were all sharp in different shades of gray. Alexander Skarsgard looked totally hot in a black suit, sans tie and white shirt and was accompanied by his father, Stellan Skarsgard. Samuel L. Jackson brought on his A-game in white. A smattering of other celebrities attended as well, and to see what Aisha Tyler, Mark Ruffalo, Dominic Monaghan and such wore, take a look at our gallery below.

A New, Very Awesome The Avengers Trailer Surfaces
A new trailer for The Avengers has surfaced, and though it’s an extended video of the clip that was aired on Super Bowl Sunday, we’ve watched this 59 times already and are on to our 60th. Here’s some of the awesomeness you should be looking out for: The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) rescuing Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) as he’s free-falling off a skyscraper; Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) fighting on a mountaintop; and also, what exactly are those aliens that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is controlling? Hiddleston makes a terrific Loki, and you’ll see a lot more of his sinister mug in this trailer. This is really shaping up to the be the movie to watch this summer. May 4 is the date. Mark your calendars.
