We’re looking a little worse for wear this morning after the emotional night that was the last Twilight premiere, but thanks to Open Road Films and our friends at MTV, we have the perfect pick-me-up for the morning: Evidence that the next Stephenie Meyer adaptation could be just as thrilling as we think Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is. As anyone who’s read The Host knows, it presents a number of challenges to director Andrew Niccol — if you get one element wrong in this alien-invasion love story that takes place in a high-tech future and a primitive underground bunker, it could be cheesy, heartless or both. But the trailer that debuted this morning provides some reassurances that the movie we’ll see on March 29, 2013, will get at least 10 important things right.
1. The romantic backstory between Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) and Jared Howe (Max Irons).
2. The desperation of feeling like you’re the last people on Earth. Read more…
While the makers of The Yellow Handkerchief are likely grateful for star Kristen Stewart‘s Twilight fame—that has to put a few more pennies to the promotional budget—it must be frustrating to discover the pullquotes from her promotional appearances aren’t about her emotional roadtrip drama with William Hurt, but whether Breaking Dawn, the final chapter of the teen vampire epic, should be two films. “It would be hard to cram all of it into one movie,” she told E! News. “I mean, it looks like a ‘yes,’ but it’s still not concrete.” Hard to imagine the studio would mind dragging their cash cow out for an extra cinematic chapter.

Damages actor William Hurt has always had a reputation for difficulty on set, but former girlfriend/co-star Marlee Matlin is accusing him of a whole lot more. The pair started dating while filming Children Of A Lesser God in 1985 (“We had an affair that night, the last day of the audition. We were together for two years”) and, as she told Access Hollywood, things quickly turned dark.
I always had fresh bruises everyday, and if I had a split lip, or if… I mean, there were a lot of things that happened that were not pleasant….The drugs took over my life, took over my brain. I was 19 and I was alone in New York City. I had no friends there except my drug dealer…
Matlin describes their arguments in her new book, I’ll Scream Later, including one that sounds a lot like rape (“[Hurt] ripped off her clothes while she sobbed, ‘No, no, no. Please Bill, no'”). The book also details her relationships with Rob Lowe and Richard Dean Anderson, as well as her stints in rehab and on Dancing With The Stars. Matlin, who is deaf, won an Academy Award for Lesser God in 1986.
Hurt, who won an Oscar the previous year for Kiss Of The Spider Woman, has been married and divorced twice. He has yet to respond to Matlin’s accusations. Says Matlin. “He knows what happened, I know what happened. We both were there.”
