"Changeling" ($4.25 million)

The most ridiculously titled Bond film in history is now also the biggest. "Quantum of Solace" plowed through the competition with a $70.4 million opening, 50 percent bigger than the series' previous best ("Die Another Day") and 75 percent bigger than Daniel Craig's first foray into the franchise, "Casino Royale." The Marc Forster-directed installment has already shaken (not stirred) a staggering $322 million worldwide. With these results, Bond fans everywhere are no doubt enjoying an allocation of assuagement, or a measure of condolence, if you will.

Falling a lean 42.7 percent from last weekend, "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" made $36.1 million over the weekend to finish in second place. With $118 million after two weeks, the Ben Stiller-starring sequel is on pace to become the biggest non-"Shrek" animated feature in Dreamworks history.

Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott continued hilariously saving America one child at a time, as "Role Models" fell just 38.9 percent to come in third place with $11.7 million. The comedy brought its two-week total to a robust $38.1 million.

"High School Musical 3: Senior Year" made $5.9 million, while "Changeling" brought in $4.3 million to round out the top five. Their totals stand at $84.4 million and $27.6 million, respectively.

Among other new releases, Danny Boyle's "Slumdog Millionaire" made $350,000 from just 10 theaters, by far the highest per-theater average of any film in release.

Upcoming Releases

Miley Cyrus and John Travolta lend their voice talents to Disney's "Bolt," the animated story of a Hollywood dog who believes he has superpowers. Given Cyrus' involvement, which is frankly tantamount to planting a money tree, all eyes will be on the race for #1 between "Bolt" and a little movie called "Twilight." Is it the next "Harry Potter" or the next "Twilight.""Golden Compass"? After full year of "Twilight" Tuesdays, we'll finally have our answer.
