All this week, we brought you behind-the-scenes interviews recorded during the rehearsals for this year’s Hip Hop Honors (the show taped a few weeks ago, but will premiere on air Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 9/8c). For our last clip, we end where we started, continuing our chat with Public Enemy frontman Chuck D and Boots Riley of the Coup and Street Sweeper Social Club. The politically minded rappers talk at length about the depoliticized state of hip-hop in ’09. It’s about as revealing as political discourse over booming music, on a theater balcony, can be.
