It’s no secret that male winners of American Idol have yet to experience the same kind of success in the marketplace as their female counterparts. Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and our own Fantasia all have multiple gold LPs under their belt, while the likes of David Cook, Taylor Hicks and Kris Allen have yet to strike the same kind of chord with the record buying public. That said, Lee DeWyze has already beaten the odds once, so what’s in the way of him having the biggest post-Idol career of not just the guys, but also the girls?
After all, as he quite aptly notes in “Sweet Serendipity,” the first single off his upcoming album, “I ain’t gonna stress, ’cause the worst ain’t happened yet.” It certainly hasn’t; DeWyze has experience quite the opposite, in fact. He fended off the popular (and favored) Crystal Bowersox to take home the title of American Idol at the conclusion of the show’s ninth season this past spring, and he looks to continue his string of 2010 success when Live It Up is released today. To see if DeWyze has a hit on his hands, be sure to tune into the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown this weekend!
