The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are no strangers to SXSW. In 2009, they were one of the most buzzed-about bands in the lineup, thanks in part to a debut album that generated a home run in the press. The indie-pop act, including keyboardist/singer Peggy Wang, is releasing their sophomore album, Belong, on March 29. Early word on the street: It’s as catchy as the debut. Here’s the video for Belong‘s first single, “Say No To Love.”

The Pains are performing several SXSW shows. After the jump, Peggy’s picks:

WILD FLAG

“This is pretty much my dream lineup of female idols from those crucial formative years. But if it sucks, I might get really depressed afterwards.”

Quintron and Miss Pussycat

“Being from New Orleans, Quintron is one of my favorite performers. I pretty much plan my trips home to visit my parents around Quintron shows.”

Edwyn Collins

“I was too young to ever get to see Orange Juice play, so this is the closest thing.”

There are a whopping 2,000 or so acts performing at South By Southwest in Austin this year. A few are household names (Duran Duran, Erykah Badu, The Strokes), some are respected indie veterans (Low, Hieroglyphics) and others feel like they’re about to be the next big thing. We’ve asked a diverse group of 2011 SXSW artists to name acts in the lineup they’d love to see. We’re hoping this ongoing series will serve as not just a guide to the fest, but also an interesting snapshot of today’s music scene.
