The Soundscan numbers are in, and though sales of Adele‘s sophomore album 21 aren’t slowing, the Foo Fighters‘ new album Wasting Light sold stronger, taking the top spot on the Billboard 200 this week.
Does this mark a loss of interest in Adele’s record? Not necessarily. 21 actually sold better this week than last week, and since its debut has continued to retake the #1 chart spot after being knocked down, albeit briefly, by a series of contenders (Lupe Fiasco; Jennifer Hudson and Chris Brown; Wiz Khalifa and Britney Spears) with big first sales weeks but nowhere near her sales longevity (although F.A.M.E., Rolling Papers, and Femme Fatale remain in the top ten).
Will 21 retake the top spot next week? Or has Wasting Light got legs? (Or does Glee: The Music Presents The Warblers or Gorillaz‘ stateside release of The Fall have a shot at a big first week?) Give us your predictions in the comments! And don’t forget to vote for your favorite on VH1’s Top 20 Countdown! Last week “Rolling in the Deep” fended off The Foo Fighters’ “Rope” to hold on to the top spot; tune in Saturday morning at 9am ET to see if Adele can keep the streak alive!
