Throughout its eclectic fifteen-year run, the majority of VH1 Storytellers??episodes have been shot in sound stages in either New York City or Los Angeles. While we certainly are adept at capturing your favorite star-songwriters and musicians in their purest creative form, it?s almost unheard of that we do so on the artist?s home turf. That, my friends, is yet another reason why this season?s Storytellers premiere is SO exciting; taped in Nashville where the band actually lives, Kings Of Leon were able deliver a performance tailored for their adoring local fans. But rest assured: you don?t have to LIVE in Nashville to get a piece of the
pie action. During our journey down South to cover KOL?s regal Storytellers taping last month, we sat down with the band and decided to do a little recon of our own, all in hopes of serving up a few enticing slivers of information for all you KOL fans to sink your teeth into.
Curious as to why we’re using so much food-related imagery?! Well, we?ve already given you a behind the scenes glimpse at the band?s Storytellers shoot, and all week we’ve been releasing clips from the show that airs TONIGHT at 11 p.m. ET/PT. But what we haven?t sent your way yet is Kings Of Leon?s personal list of restaurants and bars that they themselves frequent in Music City. That?s right, we’re psyched to present to you Fare Fit For A King: The Ultimate Nashville City Guide.
Follow along for pictures and descriptions of the places where the Followill brothers ?Caleb, Nathan, Jared and Matthew? like to get their grub on when they’re not on the road.
Boasting an attractive wait staff and light-beckoning windows and wooden tables that give a picnic-like feel, it?s no surprise that drummer Nathan Followill can?t get enough of Burger Up. And he?s not alone! We were told that Taylor Swift has dined there with the band before, and when we went there ourselves to try Nathan?s favorite bison burger, Train guitarist Jimmy Stafford was posted-up for lunch! Other celebs known for enjoying the burger joint?s fare are figure skater Scott Hamilton, actors Reese Witherspoon, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, and recording artists The Black Keys, Brad Paisley, Sheryl Crow and Keith Urban.
In the footage above, frontman Caleb mistakenly mentions this Japanese restaurant?s catfish sashimi, but when we went to investigate, the owners corrected him; his ritual order is actually the flounder! And, in case you were wondering, it melted in our mouth. In a word? DELISH! Whether the guys sit in the coveted back room or at the establishment?s main sushi bar tsukedai, you?ll be sure to catch KOL tackling some chopsticks here, in the same strip-mall where you can also find a pharmacy, jeweler, nail shop and furrier!
This large, family-friendly eatery is considered a Nashville gastronomical staple, and is surely not to be missed. Matthew mentioned it quickly during our interview, and once we saw the plates of delectable breakfast food, we quickly understood why. With over ten types of pancakes available, there?s certainly a taste for every appetite, so come hungry! And if you?re full afterwards, take a stroll down the quaint streets of Hillsboro Village, and window shop the calories away.
One of Nashville?s newer lounges, the open-air locale of Tavern has a little bit of something for everyone. Mentioned by the youngest Followill, Jared, the bar showcases a nice variety of drinks and eats, all while maintaining a cool, sceney atmosphere. Want to escape to the upper level?s more discrete booth area? Make room for the barbeque sauce and do it! Want to get some fresh air? Head to one of their porches and sip your cocktail in peace.
In bar parlance, the Kings of Leon are “regulars” here. Here, you can catch them sipping vodka/Red Bulls, Fireball whiskey or all-American Michelob Ultra, likely seated in one of the bars? big, comfy booths. And what, exactly, was the lime garnish on the glass for our visit to this booze-honoring spot? The band actually went there after Storytellers to celebrate a job well done! CHEERS!
