T-Pain Launches Auto-Tune Competitor “The T-Pain Effect”

by Nick Minichino

T-Pain and Auto-Tune have become nearly synonymous over the past six years. If you’re T-Pain, that may once have been a distinguishing characteristic that helped you stand out, but now that you’re well-known, it’s a real problem. Now you’re an unpaid advertisement for Auto-Tune, instead of the other way around. So what do you do?

Simple: you partner with an Auto-Tune competitor and brand the software “The T-Pain Effect.” Unlike the “I Am T-Pain” iPhone app (which does use Antares’s proprietary Auto-Tune software), “The T-Pain Effect” is independently developed. T-Pain’s statement to allhiphop.com hints at new possibilities through “The T-Pain Effect” but details have yet to be unveiled.
