Last Lap: Monday’s Odds And Ends In Music News

by

We try to cover all the music stories that matter here on the VH1 Blog. Sometimes, though, we find too many stories to cover, stories that don’t exactly “matter” but are worth sharing, or even just good stuff from our peers. Here’s your Monday roundup:

Clarence Clemons Is Reportedly “Responsive” After Stroke
No official word has yet come about Clarence Clemons‘s condition following his stroke, but Bruce Springsteen fansite Backstreets quotes “a close friend” as saying, “His vital signs are improving. He’s responsive. His eyes are welling up when we’re talking to him. He was paralyzed on his left side, but now he’s squeezing with his left hand.” [Billboard]

Sesame Street Teases “Spider-Monster: The Musical”
This morning, Sesame Street released a teaser for its 42nd season (premiering in September)?a clip of a sketch starring Grover and parodying the setbacks that Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark has faced. Sharp-eared Henson Workshop devotees in the comments are noting that Frank Oz has returned to voicing Grover for this bit (if not for more of the upcoming season). [Popdust]

DJ Earworm Makes Another Capital FM Festival Mashup
For the second year, Capital FM, “The U.K.’s No.1 Hit Music Station,” has commissioned a summer mashup from DJ Earworm, famous for his United State of Pop mixes (2008, 2009, 2010). This year’s mix, like last year’s, combines UK hits of all of the performers at the radio station’s Summertime Ball. It also gives somewhat of a window into the Song of the Summer race across the pond. (Go, Katy B, go!) [Vulture]

Fat Joe Drops 88 Pounds For His Daughter
Rapper Fat Joe spoke to the New York Daily News about his substantial weight loss (noticeable in his new video “Drop a Body”). He cited health concerns, particularly as regards being around for his five-year-old daughter. “I always loved being fat, obviously,” he said. “I’m Fat Joe, you know? If I could gain 1000 pounds and be healthy, I would do that. But obviously, the statistics say you can’t.” Joe also commented on the lack of availability of healthy food options in the Bronx, a problem the Internets Celebrities addressed in “Bodega” (language NSFW).
