R. Kelly Rebounds From Surgery, Preps New Album
R. Kelly has apparently completely recovered from his emergency throat surgery, because he appeared on Chicago’s WGCI this morning, talking about working on a new album?titled Black Panties?containing “10 Minutes,” a single that’s apparently close to release! [Rap Radar]

X Factor Judges’ Table Drama Ramps Up Prior To Premiere
Simon Cowell’s pre-X Factor trash talk continued at last night’s industry premiere, as he claimed (with agreement from L.A. Reid) that Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger had voted against talented auditioners simply because they were attractive women. Abdul retorted that this had been implied in editing based on which auditions were selected for the episodes. [Billboard]

Lana del Rey Sparks Hipster Controversy
On a related note, Lana del Rey played a “secret” show last night that turned into a firestorm of arguing in “indie rock” circles all over the Internet, which made every single person involved look worse, with two exceptions: del Rey herself, improbably enough, and Maura Johnston at the Village Voice, who doesn’t enter the fray so much as describe it from as far away as she can get. Second Chances For “Shots” And Rap-Rock?
Radio insiders are speculating that LMFAO’s 2009 single “Shots” may get another, erm, shot thanks to a surge of requests and LMFAO’s chart-topping summer run. Andrew Unterberger at Popdust isn’t too enthused at the prospect. Meanwhile, Seth Colter Walls succeeded in being too contrarian for Slate?a position we wouldn’t have thought possible until we realized that the online magazine buried his defense of rap-rock on Friday afternoon. Which is too bad, because it’s actually quite good! [Slate]
