Posted Artist The Fray Give Us A Third Blog Post While Their Drummer Suffers A Cold

The Fray are delighting us here at VH1 as our featured Posted artist for the month of February. Every week they’ve been giving us some pretty juicy material in the form of some very personal blog posts. First, lead guitarist Dave Welsh told us about life on the road, and last week we read about the band’s experience watching the Super Bowl. We were also lucky enough to have the guys stop by Big Morning Buzz Live to give a stripped back performance of their new song “Heartbeat.” This week, thanks again to Dave Welsh, we’ve been treated with yet another candid blog post, and it’s about special drumsticks, dance parties, and head colds. Read it after the jump, along with some behind the scenes photos from the band’s shoot for the “Run For Your Life” video!

“FYI: my buddy Flem is still here. We’re gonna have breakfast.” – Benjamin Wysocki upon waking up with a cold, again.

Shit got real this week. We mourned loss, we celebrated achievement. Both science and the human element were equally praised. But, truthfully, as the week passes and another begins, it feels like the equivalent of a lunar hiccup. We’ve seen it before and chances are we’ll see it again; but this doesn’t detract from the temporal sting and sweetness. We’ve been losing some beautifully tragic pieces to this planet lately.

But we still wake up the next day. In Ben’s case, it was with an unwelcome companion. For the past week our hours of sleep have been shaved like ice on a summer’s day causing our fragile health to be tested. Late nights and earlier mornings. Prior to taping the Today Show we found ourselves throwing impromptu dance parties: what else do you do with bleary-eyed exhaustion? It’s generally frowned upon to have a glass of wine at six in the morning.

Amidst the endless hours we achieved a few momentous things. We released a record. We shot a music video. We played a few shows and a handful of songs. And Ben, the drummer with the head cold, received his first pair of signature drumsticks. They have our name on it. They carry his John Hancock.

“Ben, I’ve got a surprise inside for you,” his tech John said.

“Wait, so if I know, does that mean it’s not a surprise anymore?”
