DJ Khaled has the most incredible musical superpowers because only someone superhuman can consistently get all of the hottest artists on one track. This go ’round he brought together Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Rick Ross for the Colin Tilley directed “Take It To The Head.” Not to mention Drake, Busta Ryhymes and Baby (aka Birdman) make cameos. Next time there’s a hip-hop beef, we must call Khaled. He can get everyone toghether! Complete with crashing buses, graffiti and fire, the video is all about destruction. If the setting looks familiar perhaps it’s because you’ve been to Universal Studios in Orlando, FL. Per Stereogum.com, the set was in fact shot at the Earthquake ride at the popular amusement park. Now, if the rappers could’ve rapped their verses while on the ride, that would have been impressive.
Water rushes in, trucks crash and fire is ignited. The heavily auto-tuned record makes for a summer bump-in-your-car type of track, but the video isn’t groundbreaking. All of the background action, which is minimum, sort of takes up for the rappers looking bored to death. Rick Ross does his infamous stand and look hard face. Chris Brown sings while in a cage. Nicki leaves personalities Martha and Roman at home, keeping it street and pretty. And Wayne’s holding on to his hipster/skateboard look while multiple Weezys appear on the screen. The graphics of quadruple Waynes was an exciting touch to the otherwise unenthusiastic video. Luckily, we can enjoy the song without needing to watch the video. Plus, Wayne’s exit on the track never gets old: “It’s young moolah baby!”
