On Kanye’s “Last Call” from debut album College Dropout he rhymed, “It was straight embarrassing how y’all played him/Last year shoppin’ my demo, I was tryin’ to shine/Every motherf*cker told me that I couldn’t rhyme.” Yeezy is arguably the biggest producer turned rapper story in hip-hop. Next up may be GRAMMY nominated producer Hit-Boy who is known for producing hits like “N**** in Paris.” Today Hit-Boy released “Jay-Z interview,” which is the world’s introduction to rap skills. Although he doesn’t do an actual interview with Jay, the G.O.O.D. Music artist includes clips of Hov (nice marketing ploy!) on tour and his studio time with.
One can’t help but admire the amazingly dope Bink! beat. Hit-Boy’s voice is low and calm, almost timid. His flow is decent, it actually could be really great with practice. There were head nod worthy lines like “I’m just fresh prince buzzing like Uncle Phil’s child.” There weren’t many jaw dropping lines, and line by line he’s just ok. However, as a full song it gets our stamp of approval.
Hit-Boy has the potential to take his rap career somewhere great. His shining moments are at the end when he references the title in the closing line: “Hear the s*it I spit like what the f*ck has gotten into you?/I got ‘em tuned in like a Jay-Z interview.” Right after he spits that line it goes in to an actual Jay-Z interview where Jay says there’s poetry in everything. Will Hit-Boy be the next mega producer turned rap poet? We’re keeping our eye on this guy.
