There’s almost almost no better way to sum up Rihanna’s career than “that Rihanna reign just won’t let up.” What makes the magnitude of her success notable is the short time its taken her to break records in the way new artists can only imagine. “Where Have You Been” from Talk That Talk recently jumped from the No. 11 to No. 9 spot on Billboard Hot 100 charts making this her 22nd top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. That makes 22 top 10s in seven years. No wonder she lives by her own rules with very few f’s to give. She talks the talk and clearly walks the walk.
She creeps closer to the record for female acts with the most top 10s, and there’s only four female artists ahead of her. Madonna holds down the fort with 38, followed by Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson who both have 27 and Whitney Houston with 23. Rihanna is one hit song away from sharing the same spot for top 10 hits with The Voice. Churning out a record nearly every year has its payoffs. Seven years ago when the world was introduced to the Barbadian beauty her debut single “Pon De Replay” was her the first of many top hits to follow.
Not only is she dominating the charts amongst women, she’s the only act, period, that has secured as many top 10 charting songs in a seven year time frame. Even the starpower of her biggest competitor–Lady Gaga–doesn’t come close in comparison with 11. She works hard, she plays hard and she slays by the numbers. Literally.
