Badu vs. Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne

Glitter is supposed to make everyone happy! Too bad glitter is not enough to settle the spat between Erykah Badu and The Flaming Lips lead singer Wayne Coyne. She had no problem with Coyne tweeting nude photos of her sister, Nayrock, who is also featured in the video for The Flaming Lips and Badu collaboration on “First Time I Ever Saw Your Face.” According to Okayplayer.com, Ms. Badu was not pleased with the premature posting of the video on Pitchfork.com.  She did not back down from her position even though all of Twitter was watching. We’re assuming the apology and accountability The Flaming Lips took for the concept of the video wasn’t quite enough to get back on her good side either.

In a press release, we mean tweet, (the two run hand in hand these days), Badu expresses her lengthy feelings about the controversial video. She questions Coyne’s artistry (or lack thereof) and character. Saying the free spirited neo-soul artist ripped him a new one is totally an understatement. Addressed directly to Wayne Coyne, Badu writes, “Then… perhaps, next time u get an occasion to work with an artist who respects your mind/art, you should send at least a ROUGh version of the video u PLAN to release b4 u manipulate or compromise the artist’s brand by desperately releasing a poor excuse for shock and nudity that sends a convoluted message that passes as art( to some).” It only gets better, or worse if you’re on the receiving end of her dissatisfaction. She continues by calling him self-serving and an a**, says his video is a poor excuse of art and says she’s “uninspired” by his work. In the final blow she tells him, “And if you don’t like it you can KiSS MY Glittery A**. O and Nayrok told me to tell u to kiss her a** too.”

So, we guess this means cows will fly before the two of them ever work together again. Is the feud even for real? It seems like she initially had no problem with the video until her more conservative fans were turned off by the nudity. Many speculate the feud to be a hoax for publicity. If that’s true, well played you two. Well played.
