The first single “Never Go Back,” co-written by The Black Keys, is from The Lion the Beast the Beat album, which is in stores today. And in this sneak peek clip not only do we hear the vibrant vocals of Grace Potter, she also delves into the making of “Never Go Back.”

“It was one of those really great rock and roll moments I’ll never forget,” said Grace Potter. After the multi-instrumentalist hits every note with perfection, while plucking her guitar strings might we add, Potter talks about Nashville being a home of music. “Nashville has become this kind of hotbed for this renaissance, not just country music, but pop music,” she said. She didn’t know at the time Nashville would end up being the city the band created the first single for their new album in 45 minutes. Her eyes were set on a 1983 Casio keyboard when they arrived in the studio. “It smelled like a juicebox,” she said. Once she started playing the keyboard, the band joins her, they write the song, record it and the rest is music history. Tune in Friday, June 15 for VH1 Storytellers: Grace Potter & The Nocturnals at 11 p.m. ET/PT.
