Lil Wayne has finally broken his silence on pulling Nicki Minaj from the Summer Jam lineup just hours before she was scheduled to perform. And his succinct answer has us scratching our heads a bit. After Hot 97’s DJ Peter Rosenberg said Nicki’s “Starships” wasn’t real hip-hop, word got back to the YMCMB boss and he tweeted, “Young Money ain’t doing Summer Jam.” That tweet was the last we’ve heard from him on the incident. MTV caught up with Weezy and he addressed the debacle quite graciously. Unlike his “F*ck Pusha T and anybody that love em” tweet, there were no shots (not literally) fired or shade thrown. But his answer leaves us with more questions.
Simply put Wayne’s reason for 86ing Nicki’s performance was because she’s a female. That’s right. For Wayne the issue boiled down to a female being disrespected. “That’s a female; first and foremost Nicki Minaj is a female. I don’t know what anyone else believes, but I believe females deserve the ultimate respect at all times no matter, when or where or how,” he told MTV News on Saturday while backstage at Hot 107.9’s Birthday Bash in Atlanta. But wait. Rosenberg dissing her song wasn’t a female vs. male issue. It was a DJ expressing his opinion, albeit at the wrong time, about a song he didn’t like. One could argue Rosenberg only dissed her song because she’s a female and others claim he would never do that to a male rapper, but it’s not like he disrespected Nicki as a woman.
Wayne added, “As soon as she called me and told me she felt disrespected, I just declined everything,” he said. “I pulled her from the show because … no person that works with me will be disrespected in my presence as long as I’m on this planet.” Aha! And here’s Wayne’s magic secret that we hadn’t been able to figure out before. It appears that Wayne’s respect for females (despite calling them b*tches and h*s in his music) is why he is able to get the four mothers of his kids–three that were pregnant at the same time–to all be buddies. Thanks Weezy for finally solving that mystery. We were starting to think you had some super martian powers.
