Deep down Nicki Minaj has a forgiving heart. Her boss may have put a stop to her Summer Jam performance, she may not have liked DJ Peter Rosenberg’s comment about “Starships” and she definitely had it out with Funkmaster Flex on the radio, but the rapper says there’s no hard feelings. Over in the UK Minaj talked to UK DJ and personality Tim Westwood who asked her about the whole Summer Jam kerfuffle. Minaj tells Westwood they wanted to prove their point and Young Money is done with it. “I feel like it happened and there is no animosity, I still love them over there at the station. They’ve helped me a lot as well,” Minaj told Westwood. “It’s not like we’re walking around being angry, we just wanted to prove that one point and that was that.”
After everything that happened we’d say the point was effectively made. Nicki also told Westwood that getting on stage despite Westwood’s comments wouldn’t have proven a point that she deserved respect. “I want to let people know that I’m not even getting on your stage if you don’t have your mind right,” Nicki said. “That’s the point. See, if you get on the stage, you’re saying next time you can do it again and we’ll have this exchange.” As far as there being a double standard in how female and male artists are treated, Nicki says it exists. She explained that Lil Wayne performed “How to Love” at Summer Jam last year, which she says isn’t typically the type of song for Hot 97’s demographic, but no one dissed him. “My thing is the guys do treat the guys different and maybe they feel Nicki Minaj is something to be played with.” Clearly she’s not.
At the end of the day the opinion of her music wasn’t the problem, it was the timing of when Rosenberg expressed that opinion. “You have your opinions on radio and all that, but when an artist comes to perform you should just keep it to yourself, just for that one day,” she said. Nothing to see here, folks. The “beef” between Hot 97 and Young Money camp has been laid to rest.
