Meek Mill's "Amen" Causes Controversy With Local Pastor

Recently we picked Meek Mill’s “Amen” featuring Drake as one of the contenders for VH1′s Song of the Summer. Well not everyone is on the amen choir praising the organ laced track that shouts “amen,” “preach” and “church” to some questionable things that we’re not so sure is praise worthy in the traditional sense. All Hip Hop reports Philadelphia pastor Jomo K. Johnson (admittedly a hip-hop fan) got wind of “Amen” and called for a boycott of the song. Pastor Johnson called into Philly’s Hot 107.9 and said, “As a hip-hop fan I decided to check it out and listen to the lyrics. I was just completely shocked that Meek Mill, knowing that Philadelphia is a highly religious community, he would choose to make a song thanking the good Lord, for things that are completely contrary to the holiness of God.” We’re guessing a rendition of Meek’s infectious hit from his Dreamchasers 2 mixtape won’t be played at church this Sunday.

As a Philly native himself, Meek called in with his thoughts on the controversy. And if you’re expecting Meek Mill to sugar coat his feelings while talking to a pastor– don’t. Meek told the pastor he was using this as an opportunity to get money for his church. “The way I’m looking at it is, you want to be famous. You want some money, or you’re trying to get your church some money,” Meek Mill said on Hot 107.9.  “If you want that, you could have came to me and said that, or we could have had a talk about this. I’m out here feeding my family. For you to be talking about you trying to ban me? I done took 20, 30 drug dealers off the street. I’m out here passing out them coats to them kids, where was you at?” A Pastor that wants to be famous? You don’t say.

After Meek was done screaming he said, “F you” to which the Pastor responded,  “The F stands for forgive.” So, does this mean there may be fire and brimstone in our distant future because we actually love “Amen,” not to mention we sing along? F us too then. The F stands for forgive.
